Before she teamed up with Tim Burton once more for Edward Scissorhands in 1990, they had reportedly been discussing the possibility of a Beetlejuice sequel – way before its time!
In a recent chat with Harper’s Bazaar, I, as a huge fan, was thrilled when Ryder disclosed the clandestine encounters she had with Burton. She shared that there were numerous instances when her representatives remained oblivious to these secret rendezvous. On the same note, Burton casually mentioned some abandoned ideas for the Beetlejuice sequel during the interview. He quipped, “There were concepts like ‘Beetlejuice in Space’ or ‘Beetlejuice Does Whatever.’ At that point, discussions about sequels weren’t common practice.”
Due to a 36-year delay in producing the follow-up, the upcoming movie will highlight significant life transformations for Lydia as she interacts once more with Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice character. In this fresh installment, we learn that Lydia’s experiences with the supernatural entity granted her the unique ability to communicate with spirits, which she showcases in a popular TV program called “Ghost House.” However, there is one specter she cannot contact – her deceased husband and Astrid Deetz’s (Wednesday’s Jenna Ortega) father. This unreachable connection causes tension between Lydia and Astrid.
The tale additionally mentions that “Lydia, a widow who frequently takes pills,” is romantically involved with her manager, Rory (Justin Theroux). Nevertheless, it’s important to note that the report clarifies that Lydia’s feelings for Rory are not reciprocal, suggesting their relationship may not last beyond the movie.
