For nearly a year, Gray Zone Warfare has been sailing through Early Access on Steam. Over the last few months, the team at Madfinger Games has rolled out numerous bug fixes, enhancements for user convenience, and some eagerly anticipated additions. Recently, we’ve seen the addition of a vital repair system, improvements to the way vendor reputation is managed, and adjustments to the loot system – a relief, considering our inability to loot our own belongings previously. However, the real anticipation lies just ahead.
This spring, the significant 0.3 Winds of War update will be landing on GZW, and it’s set to bring even more exciting features to the table.
Winds of War brings firepower, armor, and more gear to Gray Zone Warfare
The specific release date remains unknown (only that it’ll arrive this spring), but Winds of War is gearing up to be a significant overhaul for the game, GZW. It promises an abundance of fresh content and enhancements tailored for players engaged in both PvE and PvP scenarios.
If you want to gain an early advantage or simply brush up on your knowledge, be sure not to pass up our comprehensive Gray Zone Warfare guide complete with an interactive map.
Here’s what’s coming:
New Weapons
- SIG MCX – a modern modular rifle chambered in .300 Blackout, designed for reliable suppressed performance and versatile mid-range builds. Like evolved AR platform – same feel, better tech.
- MP7A1 / A2 – compact, high-RPM PDWs firing 4.6×30mm rounds. These excel in close-quarters fights with low recoil and excellent armor penetration — perfect for clearing tight spaces quickly.
- SVD Dragunov – the legendary semi-auto rifle using 7.62×54R. This is the game’s first dedicated DMR, ideal for players who like to hang back and apply pressure with precise, long-range shots.
- Beretta M9A1 – a classic 9mm pistol with modern upgrades like a Picatinny rail and higher-capacity mags (15 or 30 rounds). Reliable and solid — great backup when things go sideways.
- Colt 1911 Commander (new variant) – a lighter, snappier version of the classic .45 — strong stopping power in a compact form.
- Mosin Nagant Carbine (new variant) – a shorter, more agile version of the iconic bolt-action, with a straight bolt handle for quicker cycling in tight situations.
New Armor & Helmets
- Ballistic Vests & Plate Carriers – Plate6 Plate Carrier offers top-tier protection with extended side coverage, but it’s quite heavy. Phantom Type 2, however, is more balanced option that gives you solid front and back protection while still letting you move around more freely.
- New Helmets – We’ll be able to choose from newly added helmets with military-grade protection levels, and there are now versions with or without mounts, letting us prioritize vision, weight, or utility depending on out loadout. These changes also raise the stakes. losing a well-equipped helmet now hits harder, literally and emotionally.
- The Skullcrasher – a lightweight rig designed for mounting NVGs without sacrificing all your mobility. It won’t stop bullets, but it keeps your headgear light and your vision sharp for those nighttime operations or stealthy runs.
Others
- Better Ballistics – improved terminal ballistics for more realistic damage, including bullet tumbling and new organ hit zones (like intestines!) that make shot placement more important.
- Customization – 80+ new weapon parts and attachments, plus new scopes and red dots to tailor your gear exactly how you want.
- Tracking Tags – a new item lets you track gear (or your body) on the map after death.
- QoL Upgrades – smoother scope zooming, better sight alignment, and a reworked durability and repair system that makes gear wear feel more natural.
- Loot & Economy Rework – more valuable and practical loot, more hidden crates, and better in-field rewards.
