HBO’s show has been incredibly popular, and as the final episode of this highly praised crime drama airs this weekend, people are naturally wondering if it will be renewed for a second season.
I just finished watching ‘Task’ and it’s really good! It stars Mark Ruffalo as an FBI agent who’s trying to crack a case involving these crazy home invasions. Turns out, they’re all connected to a motorcycle gang dealing drugs. It’s a pretty intense story!
The show first aired on September 7, 2025, and has been gaining popularity ever since. By Episode 6, viewership had increased by 32% compared to the premiere, reaching over four million viewers in the US across all of HBO’s platforms.
The season finale airs this Sunday, but Brad Ingelsby, the show’s creator, hopes to continue the series beyond this season.
Task creator Brad Ingelsby “has more stories to tell”

In an interview with Esquire, Ingelsby said he’s eager to continue writing about Task if readers enjoy it. He feels he has plenty more stories to tell about the setting and would love to share them if there’s continued interest.
You know, what really drives me with this whole project is the characters. I’m way more interested in *who* people are than *what* happens. I see myself as someone who loves digging into characters – like the Grassos, Lizzies, and Aleahs – and really understanding them. Honestly, if I were making a movie, unless I was directing like Robert Altman, it’d be tough to give that many characters the attention they deserve. TV just lets you explore people on a deeper level, and that’s what I’m all about.
So Ingelsby is up for the challenge, meaning the ball is now very much in HBO’s court.
Season 2 could be a Mare of Easttown crossover

Since the first season of Task hasn’t finished airing, we don’t yet know the ending. However, the creator also made the HBO drama *Mare of Easttown*, which was set nearby, so a connection between the two shows is still possible.
According to creator Brad Ingelsby, there are more stories to explore about the characters and setting of Delaware County. He told The Hollywood Reporter that because both ‘Mare of Easttown’ and his other series exist in the same universe, a crossover – like Mare Sheehan and Tom Vlasin meeting at a Wawa – isn’t out of the question. While he doesn’t currently have a crossover story planned, he’s open to the idea of their worlds colliding.
I’m really excited about the possibility of a crossover between ‘Task’ and ‘Mare of Easttown’! Tom Pelphrey, who plays Robbie in ‘Task,’ seems to be on board too. He’s a big fan of ‘Mare of Easttown’ – like me! – and obviously loves being part of ‘Task’. He thinks a crossover would be amazing, and honestly, I completely agree – I think a lot of us fans would be thrilled!
