With two films delving into the gritty setting of Arthur Fleck’s Gotham city, there’s growing speculation among fans about the potential for a third Joker movie.
If you’ve watched the latest film, you’re aware not all characters receive a fairytale conclusion. However, this shouldn’t lead you to believe the tale has come to an end. On the contrary, Joker: Folie à Deux took everyone by surprise with its unique musical element. Now, the story could go in any direction.
Regardless of whether Todd Phillips broadens his Batman universe or shifts gears to explore one of the Joker’s criminal counterparts, Warner Bros. has a wealth of opportunities to continue the Joker franchise.

It seems the main decision-maker is not actively pursuing a third installment, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility entirely. The first film earned more than a billion dollars at the box office, making it the highest-grossing R-rated movie until Deadpool and Wolverine surpassed it.
Although Joker: Folie à Deux has received some unfavorable criticisms, there’s a good chance it could generate substantial earnings. If this happens, it wouldn’t be unexpected to find that ideas for a third film are swiftly developed.
What could the third movie be about?
Should Joker 3 be produced, it’s reasonable to expect that the story might focus on Harley Quinn, as Arthur Fleck met his end in the sequel.
In the finale of Joker: Folie à Deux, Arthur met his tragic end, having been fatally stabbed by another inmate at Arkham Asylum. The circumstances surrounding his death are unclear; it’s a topic of discussion whether the guards, Harley from outside sources, or simply this fellow inmate were responsible for the violent act.
Without a doubt, there are numerous topics yet to be delved into. For instance, the question remains if Harley is carrying Arthur’s child. If she persists in seeking means to compel change in Gotham or finds another suitable “Joker” to dedicate herself to, her storyline is far from concluded.
Moreover, it’s worth noting that Lady Gaga herself suggested (through Deadline) that the character didn’t stimulate her creatively in a significant way. Therefore, there’s a possibility she might reprise her role again.
In reference to “true Jokers”, the convict who attacked Arthur in Folie à Deux ended up engraving a grin on his own visage at the movie’s conclusion. This might suggest that the role of the Joker is just a title handed down through Gotham’s criminal network, and further mischief from the King of Chaos is likely to follow.
In other scenes, there seems to be an indication that Harvey Dent might eventually become Two-Face as depicted in future movies. While no definitive plans have been announced for a third film, if our theories about Harley Quinn are on point, it’s likely that Lady Gaga might reappear in the storyline.
Without a doubt, Arthur Fleck will not take the main role due to his murder. If a third film were to feature him, it might do so through flashbacks or illusions.
If Harvey Dent is causing trouble, it’s possible that Harry Lawtey might reappear. Leigh Gill, who played Gary Puddles in Folie à Deux, returned to deliver one of the most emotional scenes in the movie. Since his character is still alive, there’s a chance he could make a comeback for a third time, given his familiarity with Gotham.
