I’m excited to share that I’ll be catching “The Accountant 2” in theaters later this week! Critics have already lauded its tonal shift and lead performances, and it’s sitting pretty on Rotten Tomatoes. This is a long-awaited sequel that aims to build upon the original, setting the stage for a potential franchise. But, as of now, we’ll have to wait and see if “The Accountant 2” will be a box office success. It appears it might outperform the first film during its opening weekend, but it still falls short of covering the production costs. Fingers crossed that it finds its footing!
In simpler terms, the projected earnings for “The Accountant 2” suggest it will make between $25 million and $30 million during its opening weekend in U.S. theaters. This is slightly more than what the original “The Accountant” movie made ($24.7 million). However, the sequel was produced at a cost of $80 million, which is double the budget of the 2016 film. Unfortunately, this means that even if it outperforms its predecessor, it might still struggle to turn a profit due to its high production and marketing costs. This is especially true when compared to Ryan Coogler’s critically acclaimed vampire film “Sinners,” which could potentially earn more at the box office. In summary, while the earnings are not bad for an R-rated action film, the sequel might find it challenging to reach profitability due to its high costs.
More to come.
