In a recent interview with TopMob, actor Will Poulter discusses his role and stance on the grisly, new film “Death of a Unicorn,” which is part of the current surge in the “eat the rich” genre. Be advised: there are potential spoilers ahead!
In the latest A24 horror film, unicorns are portrayed as something other than the gentle, sparkling creatures we’re accustomed to. Instead, they’re depicted as ferocious, bloodthirsty monsters with a penchant for vengeance. These beasts turn a tranquil night inside a lavish mansion into chaos for the unfortunate souls trapped within.
In this role, Poulter portrays Shepard Leopold, the scion of a prosperous pharmaceutical dynasty, who concocts a plan to reap riches from the remains of a deceased unicorn.
Of course, when the pandemonium erupts and mortality knocks, I’m not harboring any resentment about my own end. That’s just how things are with Poulter.
Will Poulter loved shooting his Death of a Unicorn scene
In the horror-comedy, Shepard comes very close to surviving, but ultimately meets a gruesome demise. This occurs when one of the fearsome creatures kicks him, launching him through the air and reducing his brain matter to a pulp.
Shepard in the horror-comedy nearly escapes unscathed, but ultimately suffers a grisly fate. He is attacked by one of the monstrous creatures, which results in him being kicked hard enough to send him flying through the air. The impact proves fatal and leaves his brain looking like mush.
It’s a traumatic scene, and one which Poulter ranks highly among his many previous on-screen kills.
He shared with TopMob that this particular event featured some truly remarkable demises. Among them, one stands out distinctly in his personal collection of such instances.
This story is both amusing and gory, packed with various elements. It showcased an exceptional blend of creativity, humor, and horror simultaneously.
This film is reminiscent of an ice cream sandwich adorned with sprinkles – a delightful blend of various elements that harmoniously came together. The experience was exhilarating, even when capturing the dramatic scene.
If the release of Death of a Unicorn inspires more horror films featuring legendary beasts, Poulter is contemplating which mythical creature he’d like to face next – the Loch Ness Monster.
He shared that he’s had a long-standing fascination with the Loch Ness Monster. When he was around 11 years old, he used to attend the Edinburgh Festival, an age where one should be well beyond believing in such creatures as the monster. Nevertheless, his curiosity led him to scan every lake or body of water he came across, hoping for a sight of something unusual.
It seems quite dramatic if we imagine it as a death scene, perhaps a struggle against the Loch Ness Monster, possibly in a small boat such as a canoe.
Death of a Unicorn is playing in theaters now.
