Will Jeremy Allen White Secure His Third Consecutive Win for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy Series? Or Will Martin Short FINALLY Take Home the Acting Award? (Latest Update: April 3, 2025): Could Jeremy Allen White win yet again, making it three years straight? Or is it finally Martin Short’s time to receive his own acting trophy?

Currently, Martin Short is leading the pack. Known for his loveable comedic roles and previous Emmy wins (“AFI Life Achievement Award: A Tribute to Mel Brooks” in 2014 for variety special and writing for “SCTV Network” in 1983), Short’s performance as Oliver Putnam in Hulu’s hit series “Only Murders in the Building” has been captivating both viewers and voters. This is evident by his Screen Actors Guild Award win earlier this year. With three consecutive nominations for this role, there’s a strong chance that Short could finally take home an acting award, cementing his position among television’s comedy legends. However, the outcome might depend on whether Steve Martin, his co-star, becomes a factor in the competition. If so, they could potentially split votes, opening up possibilities for others to contend for the win.

Jeremy Allen White, who’s taken home two Emmys in a row, is considered a front-runner to win another for his work on “The Bear” on FX. Since Michael J. Fox with “Family Ties” (1986-1988), no actor has claimed three consecutive wins in this category. Despite the third season not receiving the same enthusiastic reviews as its first two, White’s acting performance continues to shine brightly.

I, too, have noticed the rising stars from the freshman series making a mark this season. One such actor is Seth Rogen, who’s been creating quite a stir with his role in Apple TV+’s “The Studio.” In this series, he portrays a neurotic showrunner maneuvering through the tumultuous world of Hollywood. Although he’s mainly recognized for his work in films, his performance in “The Studio” has left critics impressed and speculating that it might fetch him another acting nomination. This would be his second one following the 2022 miniseries “Pam & Tommy,” where he was nominated in the supporting actor (limited) category.

As a cinephile, I’ve got to give a shout-out to Adam Brody for his captivating performance in Netflix’s romantic comedy “Nobody Wants This.” In this film, he plays a delightful rabbi navigating a relationship with an agnostic woman. This role earned him his first significant accolade at the Critics Choice Awards earlier this year, and I believe this recognition could provide just the right push to take his career to new heights in the upcoming awards season!

Among the other candidates are Ted Danson, a 10-time Emmy nominee and double winner (for “Cheers” in 1990 and 1991), who makes a comeback in Netflix’s humorous spy series “A Man on the Inside.” Jason Segel is featured in Apple TV+’s heartwarming and emotionally resonant dramedy “Shrinking,” while Steve Carell (“The Four Seasons”) and Matt Berry (“What We Do in the Shadows”), who have been Emmy nominees before, are also contenders.

    About the Primetime Emmy Awards

Each year, the Primetime Emmy Awards – often simply called the “Emmys” – are given out by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). These awards honor remarkable achievements in American primetime television, dating back to 1949. The Emmys are divided into three categories: the Primetime Emmy Awards for exceptional performance and production, the Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards recognizing artistic and technical craftsmanship, and the Primetime Engineering Emmy Awards celebrating significant engineering and technological innovations. The eligibility period usually spans from June 1 to May 31 annually.
