Towards the end of 2024, following a 15-year hiatus, the Delta Force series made its comeback with a fresh instalment. This free-to-play title, often compared to Battlefield, initially debuted on PC. Its launch drew thousands of players, and it consistently attracts about 100,000 daily on SteamDB. Despite some players expressing anger over the campaign’s difficulty and its near-impossibility to complete solo, developers have been gradually winning back player trust by introducing new content and expanding the game to other platforms. Regrettably, controller support was not included with yesterday’s mobile release of DF. However, it is unclear whether this first-person shooter now includes a crossplay mode as the situation appears complex.
Delta Force crossplay between PC and mobile explained
Currently, Delta Force allows progress syncing between mobile and PC versions, but players on different platforms can’t play together at this time. However, the developers mentioned in their 2023 FAQ that they plan to give mobile gamers an option for crossplay with PC users in the future, though it’s uncertain if or when this will happen.
Indeed, for seamless progression across platforms, both PC and mobile gamers’ data will be interconnected; however, the process of finding opponents (matchmaking) will remain independent for each platform.
In the case of cross-play, mobile users will have the option to decide if they want to compete alongside or against PC players, depending on their personal choices. Furthermore, they’ll be able to join forces with friends who are using different platforms for gameplay.
Contrarily to what some may believe, there’s no recent confirmation that the plans for crossplay are current or active. Moderators on the Discord server claim that this feature has been discarded and it might not be something we can expect in the future. During the Mobile Closed Beta in February, cross-platform features were also absent. The statement seems to pertain only to that specific test, but it’s important to note that this is my interpretation, not a confirmation from the developers. Therefore, at present, playing with friends on PC remains impossible, and it’s uncertain if crossplay will become an option in the future. We can only wait for official updates on the matter.
