A Tasmanian devil that went missing from a wildlife park has been found safe after a two-week search. Park staff were able to recapture the animal.
A Tasmanian devil named Mary, who had escaped from Paradise Country Wildlife Park near the Gold Coast, was found on the evening of June 16th, as announced by Village Roadshow Theme Parks.
The animal was discovered about one and a half miles from the wildlife park. She had been living outdoors for almost two weeks after escaping from a designated isolation area.
Mary initially got away by leaping out of her enclosure, which prompted an extensive search led by animal specialists and park employees.
Mary was found in critical condition
As a huge fan, I was fascinated to learn how they looked for Mary! They weren’t just randomly searching; they meticulously reviewed security camera footage and even used some really advanced mapping technology to guess where she might go next. It was incredible how much effort went into finding her.
Search teams felt hopeful they were getting closer to finding the Tasmanian devil when she appeared on a local family’s security camera in their front yard.
When they finally found Mary, she was in very serious condition and was immediately taken to a veterinary specialist for care.
The theme park reported that the animal was quickly taken to a specialized vet hospital and is now in stable condition.
The Paradise Country wildlife team continues to provide care for Mary, who is now in stable condition at the vet hospital while doctors run more tests to understand what’s happening, according to a representative.
The wildlife park hasn’t released any further information about Mary’s health or when she might come back.
