Why Yes, It’s Been Agatha All Along

As a seasoned movie critic with a penchant for all things magical and mystical, I must say that the upcoming Marvel series, “Agatha All Along“, has certainly piqued my interest. With Kathryn Hahn reprising her enchanting role as Agatha Harkness and the addition of powerhouse talents like Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza, this witchy tale promises to be a cauldron full of entertainment.

Marvel’s marketing team had a clever twist in store. For some time, we’ve speculated about an upcoming series featuring Agatha Harkness, WandaVision’s inquisitive neighbor. However, the title underwent several changes, with previous suggestions including “Agatha: The Darkhold Diaries,” “Agatha: House of Harkness,” “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” and “Agatha: The Lying Witch With a Great Wardrobe.” At Disney’s 2024 upfront gathering with advertisers on May 14, the secret was finally unveiled – the spinoff’s title is now simply “Agatha All Along“. It seems that A:TLWWGW lacked a certain charm. Here are some details about the series, such as its cast members, when it will appear on Disney+, and the enchanting glimpses of magic in the newly released trailer.

Who’s in the cast?

Kathryn Hahn will once again take on the character of Agatha Harkness, the mischievous witch who currently lacks her powers due to Wanda Maximoff’s intervention. However, it seems unlikely that she will simply settle into a peaceful life as the inquisitive neighbor Agnes. In addition, Patti LuPone and Aubrey Plaza have been added to Agatha’s coven, while Emma Caulfield is returning to her role as Sarah Proctor (also known as Dottie, Westview’s neighbor). The ensemble cast also includes Joe Locke from the series Heartstopper, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Paul Adelstein, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Okwui Okpokwasili, and Debra Jo Rupp.

In the same vein as previews, the fresh trailer for “Agatha: All Along” starts off with Hahn embodying Mare’s character, but unlike the TV homage in “WandaVision“, this series takes a different path. Instead of maintaining the same style, “Agatha: All Along” leans more towards the traditional witch narrative, reminiscent of a Marvel-inspired version of “The Witches of Eastwick“. Agatha is on a mission to gather a coven and perform a ritual for her power to return. Kathy Najimy (LuPone) delivers some over-the-top lines such as “the Witches’ Road is a death wish”. Florence Welch’s music can be heard in the background, and Agatha acquires a familiar who goes by “Teen”. The Witches’ Road seems to hold terrifying surprises, but Harkness manages to keep spirits high with a witty remark like “Last one there is a nice person.” It appears that this Halloween season will be filled with campy excitement.

Who else is involved?

The creator of the series “WandaVision”, Jac Schaeffer, is returning as the head writer and executive producer. During a featurette on the “WandaVision” Blu-ray, she recounted Kevin [Feige] suggesting, “We really should consider an actual Agatha show.” To which she responded, “Where do I sign up for that job?” in her enthusiasm.

When will it premiere?

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along are due to drop on Disney+ on September 18.

It appears that’s exactly what they’ve been doing. From the posts on Marvel and WandaVision’s social media platforms, it seems like they’ve playfully constructed Agatha’s image as the one responsible for creating chaos or disrupting things.
