Warning! Spoilers for Sirens ahead!
In the Netflix series Sirens, while some loose ends remain unresolved about the main characters’ destinies, there are sufficient clues to imply that a second season might not be necessary. The story revolves around Devon DeWitt (played by Meghann Fahy), who is determined to free her sister Simone (Milly Alcock) from the mysterious grip of their boss Michaela (portrayed by Julianne Moore). As Devon delves deeper, she grows suspicious that Michaela could be running a cult and even wonders if the woman may have murdered Peter Kell’s (Kevin Bacon) former wife, Jocelyn. However, in Sirens, nothing is ever quite as it initially appears.
In the final scenes of Sirens, it’s made clear that Michaela wasn’t the monster that Devon perceived her to be. Instead, she was as damaged as both Devon and Simone, having made similar self-destructive choices. This all came to a climax when Michaela fired Simone after Peter kissed her, which led to the younger assistant betraying Michaela, taking over her position at Mrs. Kell’s, and ultimately causing their friendship to end. The series ended abruptly with Michaela leaving the story. While there could be another season of Sirens to further the narrative, we already know how things will unfold in the future.
Simone Will Eventually Move On From Peter’s Lifestyle
History Will Repeat Itself
It’s clear from the novel “Sirens” that Peter Kell seems trapped in a repetitive cycle of life. As his children approached adulthood, he experienced a personal crisis due to his own approaching deadline, which led him to leave his first wife, Jocelyn, for the younger Michaela. Despite attempting to conceive another child, hoping it would rejuvenate Peter, they were unsuccessful in their efforts.
Peter remained married to Michaela for 13 years, but eventually came to believe she was a monster and attributed all his problems to her. In the end, he left her yet again for a younger woman named Simone, expressing hope that he would have another child with her. Unfortunately, Peter’s personal issues run much deeper than his relationships, as shown by the fact that even Simone may move on from him in the future (as suggested by “Sirens”).
Similar to Peter, Simone is a deeply troubled and distressed individual. It was often noted that Simone seemed to avoid confronting her issues, which is why she found herself drawn to Peter even after deciding against marrying Ethan out of fear of losing her identity. The pain and misery that Simone carries will inevitably catch up with her, and she will continue to flee. The real question lies in the damage that both Simone and Peter may inflict upon each other as they frantically try to escape their troubles. Ultimately, they will have to confront the repercussions of their choices together.
Simone Will Be Even More Vilified Than Michaela At Cliff House
Peter’s Next Wife Is Already At A Disadvantage
It appears that Simone’s stay at Peter’s house might be briefer than Michaela’s, as their initial encounters with Peter differed significantly. When Peter married Michaela, she was viewed unfavorably as the “other woman,” given that Mr. Kell had left his wife for the talented yet younger lawyer. Speculation arose about Michaela’s involvement in Jocelyn’s death, but, being new to the household, she essentially began anew within the staff ranks.
However, things would likely be much more challenging for Simone, as the Cliff House staff already harbored ill-feelings towards her when she was merely an assistant there.
In the household, it’s clear that Simone’s reputation will worsen even more. Not just being seen as the “other woman,” but also having been close friends with Michaela, everyone recognized their bond. They often referred to Simone as a miniature version of Michaela, so they fully understood the magnitude of her betrayal. Meanwhile, Peter’s repeated abandonment of his wives is overlooked, while Simone faces harsh judgment as “Monster 2.0.” This relentless scrutiny will eventually push Simone over the edge. As I mentioned earlier, she has a tendency to escape from her past, and this time it won’t be any different.
Devon Will Start To Turn Her Life Around In Buffalo After Sirens Season 1
Devon Learned Some Tough Lessons In Sirens
After the conclusion of Sirens, Devon appears to have a more promising future, though it’s far from flawless. An aspect not addressed in the series finale is that she may still need to face court for her two DUIs. The possibility of jail time remains uncertain, but her sobriety and renewed understanding of her family’s support could potentially result in leniency. In any case, brighter days lie ahead for Devon. She has opted to keep caring for her father, yet instead of dedicating everything to him, Devon intends to secure a place for herself close by.
If Devon follows through with her strategy, she’ll likely establish some healthy limits with her father. She can look after him while enabling the VA to offer additional benefits and care. Michaela advised Devon to cash the $10,000 check that she had given her earlier in “Sirens,” which Devon agreed to do. With this money, finding a place for herself and help with Bruce will be much more feasible. Devon could also go back to college and complete the degree she abandoned to care for Simone. Overall, Devon learned from “Sirens” that she should take pride in her decisions to support her family, so achieving balance should now be less challenging.
Michaela’s Next Move Is The Biggest Mystery After Sirens
Mrs. Kell Is Back At Square One
Peter and Simone’s pasts have set the course for their future, while Davon revealed her plans following the end of “Sirens“. However, Michaela remains a puzzle. When queried about her next steps, she admitted she was unsure. Her prenuptial agreement with Peter meant she would receive nothing from their union. The aviary and preserve were destined for Simone, leaving all of Michaela’s efforts in vain. She must begin anew.
Indeed, Sirens leaves no doubt that Michaela was never merely a trophy wife. She hailed from humble beginnings and ascended to success well before she crossed paths with Peter. Giving up her legal career upon marriage, it’s uncertain in Sirens if she still holds a license to practice law after all these years. However, if she persevered once, she can do so again.
Certainly, a possible Season 2 of Sirens might unveil Michaela’s future. Yet, it is not essential as the first five episodes have already given us a comprehensive understanding of this remarkable woman.
