The 9-1-1 series will be off the air for a while, but ABC has announced it will return. As the current TV season ends, many scripted shows are wrapping up their storylines before their final episodes air in the coming weeks. While some shows, like High Potential, have already finished their seasons, the usual TV schedule is being affected by these show endings.
Ryan Murphy’s popular 9-1-1 franchise has thrived on network television. After being canceled by Fox, the original 9-1-1 found a new home and continued success on ABC, leading to the creation of 9-1-1: Nashville. While the original show is already full of drama, the Nashville spin-off leans even more into soapy storylines, focusing on a complex family. This difference in style makes the back-to-back shows a great fit for ABC’s Thursday lineup, so it’s frustrating for fans when episodes are delayed.
Both 9-1-1 & 9-1-1: Nashville Are Officially On Its Final Break
ABC has announced that new episodes of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville won’t air tonight, April 9, 2026. The network hasn’t said why, but it’s likely a scheduling decision. Both shows are nearing the end of their current seasons and ABC probably wants to save the remaining episodes for May, a key period for television ratings that affects advertising income.
Rather than showing new or old episodes of 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville, ABC is broadcasting three back-to-back episodes of Scott Speedman’s R.J. Decker. While the show has performed decently since its March debut, it hasn’t been renewed for another season yet. By airing these episodes during popular viewing times, ABC hopes more people will watch, boosting ratings and potentially convincing the network to renew the series for next year.
When 9-1-1 & 9-1-1: Nashville Return With New Episodes (& What To Expect)
Good news for fans! ABC has announced that both 9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Nashville will be back with new episodes on April 30, 2026, in their usual time slots. While details about the new seasons are still under wraps, ABC has released trailers giving viewers a sneak peek at what’s coming.
In season 9 of 9-1-1, Buck returns to the 118 after dealing with substance abuse. The team responds to emergencies including a child stuck on an electrical tower and a car pulling a boat that crashes. A tense moment in the trailer shows Buck urgently calling for someone, suggesting a member of the 118 is in trouble. Meanwhile, 9-1-1: Nashville will feature a guest appearance by Noah Cyrus, and the conflict between Blythe and Dixie will continue to escalate.
These episodes are the second-to-last for both shows, meaning the events in them will significantly affect how the entire 9-1-1 franchise concludes its run on television.
