In addition to Steve, the villagers are the main inhabitants of the Overworld in “A Minecraft Movie”. It’s important to note that Steve is the first human character to venture into the Overworld, a world composed of blocks, as introduced at the start of “A Minecraft Movie”. The Overworld is inhabited by various creatures like sheep, pigs, skeletons, zombies, creepers, and chicken jockeys, among others. However, it’s also worth mentioning that villagers are present in the Overworld within the context of “A Minecraft Movie”.
Because the villagers in the story don’t understand English and struggle to interact with the main characters in “A Minecraft Movie,” they may not seem crucial to the plot. However, one villager does venture into the real world at the start of the film. After experiencing life outside their village, this character, who can be referred to as the ‘nitwit,’ begins to speak English, demonstrating that they are capable of learning and speaking other languages besides their own.
A Minecraft Movie’s Villagers Communicate Through Mumbling & Groans
A Minecraft Movie’s Villagers Have Their Own Language
In the movie “A Minecraft Movie”, it’s plausible that the expansive Overworld is teeming with countless villagers. Yet, just one village, Midport Village, makes an appearance in the film. As Steve gathers necessities for their journey, he guides the other characters to Midport Village, a place he’s contributed to building over his years in the Overworld. In Midport Village, our protagonists Garrett, Henry, Natalie, and Dawn come across several villagers, but they soon discover that they cannot converse with them.
In A Minecraft Movie, instead of using words we recognize, the villagers communicate through grunts and murmurs, just like they do in the Minecraft video game. This unique language is their own, but it doesn’t seem to advance the plot of the movie since none of the other characters can understand them.
The Villagers Couldn’t Talk With A Minecraft Movie’s Characters Because They Hadn’t Learned English
The Nitwit Learns English In A Minecraft Movie
Despite the villagers in Midport Village not interacting verbally with the characters, it’s shown in the post-credits scene of “A Minecraft Movie” that they can actually learn English. Later in the story, the bumbling character finds himself on a date with Marlene, portrayed by Jennifer Coolidge. On their date, Marlene attempts to converse but tells the waiter he doesn’t understand because he’s Finnish. However, by the end of the movie, Marlene and the bumbling character are able to communicate effectively.
In the world of Minecraft, the villagers have always been unfamiliar with English. However, it’s evident that they aren’t slow learners when it comes to language acquisition. Thus, the post-credits scene of A Minecraft Movie indicates that villagers are multilingual. While Steve was in the Overworld, he could have taught them English, but he seemed more engrossed in his other endeavors instead. This unexpected revelation at the end of A Minecraft Movie was quite amusing, and it implies that villagers might play a more significant role in a potential sequel.
