Why The Punisher’s Silence on White Tiger’s Death Speaks Volumes

Towards the end of Daredevil: Born Again Episode 3, an individual sporting a skull emblem on their jacket brutally kills White Tiger – however, this deed was not done by Frank Castle, better known as The Punisher.

From the very beginning, Hector Alaya found himself in a difficult situation. He intervened to protect a man being attacked on a subway platform, but during the struggle, someone accidentally fell onto the train tracks… and Hector was a police officer.

As a gamer, I’m not just saying this guy is accused of killing a cop, but he’s innocent and seems like he might be caught up in a police cover-up. Plus, there’s the little detail about his nighttime activities: he takes on the persona of White Tiger when he fights crime. That makes him quite valuable to Wilson Fisk, who just happens to be New York’s newest mayor… or let’s call him what he truly is – the Kingpin.

Despite Matt Murdock’s role in the case, the jury decided to acquit him… On that very same night, while patrolling the city as the White Tiger, he was fatally shot. The identity of the shooter remains unknown, but it wasn’t The Punisher.

Who killed White Tiger?

Although White Tiger met a tragic end, wearing a skull vest, it doesn’t necessarily imply that The Punisher was the one to pull the trigger. I mean, wouldn’t it be out of character for Frank Castle to take down another vigilante like myself and possibly align with Wilson Fisk?

One apparent solution could be: A police officer, possibly corrupted, killed Hector on Fisk’s instructions, or alternatively, this could have been a personal act of vengeance in response to the death of Officer Shanahan.

Given a moment’s thought, it becomes clear that this is the logical conclusion (there’s simply no other option presented so far in the story, and as of now, there’s no indication that Muse would be part of the events unfolding).

Before Hector’s untimely demise, I found myself seething over his acquittal. “Justice falters, juries make mistakes… now, a masked avenger, a killer, walks our city streets unpunished, while a seasoned NYPD officer like Hector meets an unfortunate end,” I lamented to BB Urich.

In simpler terms, “These self-appointed guardians aren’t heroes… I made a pledge, and the fact that Hector Alaya was acquitted means I have to fulfill it,” he stated, which sounds more like a warning than anything else. It appears Fisk might have been involved in his death since it was subtly implied.

In Episode 2, BB warned Fisk that if he managed to shake off the law enforcement, I’d stand to “lose the city.” A fantastic tactic to sway the doubtful cops was by offering them an outlet for their revenge.

Why it wasn’t The Punisher

“Recall the initial dialogue between Matt and Frank in Daredevil Season 2. Frank exclaimed, “For heaven’s sake, do you truly believe I’m just a reckless lunatic who shoots up anyone at will?””

As a loyal admirer, I can’t help but express my disdain for this city, Red. It reeks, it’s like a drainage system. The odor is nauseating and it clings to my senses. I believe our world needs individuals who aren’t afraid to take tough decisions… those who strike hard and receive a response. When I strike, they may rise again, but with me, they stay down. It’s not temporary, it’s permanent. I ensure they never tread the streets again. This is something I take great pride in.

In what world did White Tiger deserve Frank’s punishment? He didn’t do anything wrong.

This doesn’t imply that he’s never been on Fisk’s side, but in Season 2, Fisk offered Castle an opportunity to take revenge on the one who caused his family’s demise – however, Castle later betrayed him, and since then, Castle has promised to eliminate Fisk when the time is right.

If Born Again doesn’t significantly alter The Punisher’s character, you shouldn’t anticipate him siding with the police.

In the thirteenth installment of The Punisher series from 2018-19, I found myself face to face with a pair of officers on the street. Much like in the tale of ‘Born Again’, they bore his emblem proudly. They expressed their faith in me, saying, “We stand by you.

Let me make this clear. We’re on different paths. As a law enforcement officer, your duty is to serve and protect the public. That’s not something I’ve done for a while now. You don’t operate in the same way that I do. In fact, no one does. If you’re looking for someone to emulate, I’d recommend Captain America – he’d be proud to have you as followers.

Furthermore, the makers of the character explicitly disavow any ties to the police force. In 2019, Gerry Conway tweeted, “Any officer who dons a Punisher insignia while on duty is equating law enforcement with criminality.

“These officers are a shame to the profession of genuine law enforcement. Their actions demonstrate a shocking lack of responsibility, suggesting they need to be terminated promptly.”

This version maintains the sentiment of the original while using more polite language and avoiding harsh words like ‘imbecilic’. It also provides a more professional tone that might be suitable for formal or public settings.

In the year 2020, Conway introduced a project titled “Skulls for Justice”. He expressed that symbols linked to a character he jointly developed had been misused for far too long by entities of suppression, with the intention of intimidating African-Americans.

The purpose of this emblem was not originally meant to represent oppression; instead, it signifies an institutional breakdown in delivering fair justice. It’s high time we reclaim this symbol, connecting it with the fight for equal justice and the Black Lives Matter movement.
