Along the way, we’ll encounter a diverse array of bosses, some fresh and some familiar—hailing not only from Elden Ring but also from the legendary Dark Souls series. The exact number of returning Dark Souls bosses in Nightreign hasn’t been confirmed yet, but there are several who might be absent, regardless.
Environment-Focused Dark Souls Bosses Might Not Make Sense for Elden Ring Nightreign
Dark Souls Is Home to a Handful of Environment-Based Puzzle Bosses
The Dark Souls series encompasses nearly a hundred challenging boss battles, several of which are renowned as among the greatest video game adversaries ever created. Ranging from corrupted humanoid knights to colossal otherworldly monsters, numerous Dark Souls bosses could fit seamlessly into Elden Ring’s three-player cooperative gameplay. However, there are certain bosses whose underlying concepts may not perfectly match with Elden Ring’s world design.
In every installment of Dark Souls, you’ll encounter one or two bosses whose appearance and attack patterns are closely linked to the setting where they appear. Dark Souls’ Bed of Chaos is a notable example, as players must dodge its wide-reaching attacks and destroy the orange orbs situated around the battlefield. Similarly, Dark Souls 2 features Executioner’s Chariot, an environment-based boss that careens through a circular arena, demanding the use of gates to halt it momentarily.
In addition to conventional battles, Dark Souls 3 incorporates some unconventional puzzle-like boss fights, with High Lord Wolnir standing out as a notable instance. Players must evade Wolnir’s attacks and his horde of skeletons, while simultaneously destroying the golden bracelets hanging from his bony arms before they are enveloped by the advancing black mist.
Why Environment-Based Bosses Might Not Work in Elden Ring Nightreign
In the enigmatic realm of Limveld, the game titled “Elden Ring Nightreign” is set, offering a semi-open world with a unique twist. The map’s layout and structures are generated procedurally, meaning elements from the original “Elden Ring” game, such as buildings and level designs, are rearranged and remixed for an ever-changing experience.
Based on the latest previews of Elden Ring Nightreign, it seems that the majority of the game’s bosses (with the exception of the Night Lords) will not be confined to specific arenas but will appear in various, unpredictable locations across the map. These encounters can take place in open fields or within common structures. For example, a boss like Morgott might appear at unexpected times and pursue players throughout the game’s expansive open areas, instead of being found in a predetermined spot.
In a randomized approach, it seems that the environment-centric bosses from Dark Souls might not be included in Elden Ring Nightreign, because integrating them without their specific arenas and combat mechanics essential to their battles could lead to an inconsistent gaming experience.
