Deciding on the “best” movie genre is incredibly difficult. There are just too many factors to consider, with countless films available, and what someone enjoys is always a matter of opinion. Great dramas can make a strong case for that genre, but poor ones can ruin it, and the same is true for sci-fi, romance, and any other type of movie.
Horror movies are unique because even though many are poorly made, they can still be incredibly popular. This is especially true within the slasher subgenre – while it’s home to some of the most famous horror films, a lot of them aren’t very good, and that’s often what makes them enjoyable.
Even When Slashers Are Bad, They’re Still Good
Slasher movies are enjoyable because even the poorly made ones can still be fun. Fans of the genre often appreciate even the bad ones! Many popular slasher franchises, like Halloween, A Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th, include some truly terrible movies, but people still love them.
It’s funny, even though some horror movies are… well, not good, a lot of people absolutely love them! I think a lot of slasher fans aren’t expecting a masterpiece or something super profound. They just want to see some wild kills, characters who are totally over-the-top and unrealistic, and a plot that just throws logic out the window. It’s all about the fun, really.
People realize these movies aren’t masterpieces, but they enjoy watching them again and again. They’re purely for entertainment, and that’s exactly what makes them so popular.
It’s just plain fun to take well-known horror villains and drop them into silly or unexpected situations. Whether it’s Jason Voorhees in space or a neighborhood, or even a leprechaun causing trouble in the hood, these movies are a blast because of their absurdity.
When You Get A Good Slasher, It’s Something Special
Slasher movie fans are thrilled when a really good film comes along. These standout movies are often considered exceptional and
These films are considered classics. Consider the original Halloween, several of the Scream movies, and the first Texas Chain Saw Massacre as prime examples.
I’m really loving how horror has been lately! There are some fantastic hidden gems alongside newer movies like You’re Next, X, and Pearl. Plus, Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy was awesome, and I just saw In a Violent Nature which was great too. It’s a really diverse genre, and even when a movie isn’t perfect, it still manages to deliver some real thrills when it hits the mark.
That’s why slasher movies are so entertaining. You’re pretty much guaranteed a good time, no matter which one you choose. Surprisingly, a poorly made slasher film is often more fun to watch than a bad movie from genres like drama, sci-fi, romance, or fantasy. Slashers just have a lot more famously bad films that people still enjoy!
