A significant part of Monster Hunter Rise’s tremendous popularity stems from its enhancement of the franchise’s top-tier elements, which have been further refined in the latest update for Rise. While several of the standout features in this update were anticipated to some extent from its initial release, they still added an exhilarating twist to the game. Although the enlarged gathering hub, formidable monsters, and equipment to obtain from Rise’s arena or event quests are appealing, there might be one method of procuring them that is no longer feasible.
In the grand reveal of all the fresh features and content in the latest update for Wilds‘ title, some of its unique aspects got a bit overshadowed initially. Besides the event quest schedule for Monster Hunter Wilds providing additional play value between major updates, the newly introduced arena quests present an excellent opportunity to test your skills to the maximum while being compensated for your exertion. Although not everyone appreciates the restrictive aspect of arena quests where you’re confined to using particular armor and weapons, Capcom has now given players a compelling reason to beat their best times in these arenas.
Arena Quests Have Unique Rewards In Monster Hunter Wilds
Encouraging Players To Push Their Limits With Friendly Competition
Previously, arena quests in Monster Hunter Rise provided engaging difficulties but weren’t essential for the overall gameplay. They often granted special armor sets or abilities as rewards. However, these optional missions didn’t always keep players coming back, except for the initial materials from the quest or a completion bonus. But now, in an unexpected move to enhance the system, Capcom revealed that their first title update will include time-limited arena quests, offering special rewards based on how quickly you can finish them.
The initial limited-time mission, akin to a challenge quest, presented itself as an Alpha Doshaguma, granting three distinctive pendants for anyone who partook in arena quests, achieved a B rank or higher, and ranked among the top 10,000 fastest finishers. Since engaging with the global leaderboard was scarcely relevant in past Monster Hunter games, aside from marveling at exceptional player speeds, I was thrilled to discover additional means of community interaction through this competitive spirit.
In simpler terms, since pendants are minor, decorative items not easily spotted, they seemed like an excellent method to enhance the recently motivational fashion system within Wilds without making it feel like an obligatory task. Even though some gamers were frustrated that the reward couldn’t be earned through effort alone, I believe that in concept, having limited rewards can serve as a means to acknowledge and honor skilled players or active community members.
Cheaters Have Already Ruined Monster Hunter Wilds’ Ranking System
A Leaderboard Filled With Questionable Ranking Times
Regardless of assertions that the developers of Wilds were going to clamp down on individuals using cheats or mods to boost their arena quest times, posts on the official Monster Hunter X account suggest that the leaderboard remains populated with manipulated records. Some players are more adept at concealing it than others by selecting somewhat plausible times, but even entering the game now will reveal numerous pages of seemingly impossible completion times. With some players completing the quest in under four seconds, it is evident that Monster Hunter Wilds needs to take stronger measures to tackle its cheating issue.
Despite the fact that cheating has been a recurring issue in the Monster Hunter series throughout all its installments, it’s novel that this particular game gives substantial prizes based on global completion times, instead of focusing solely on individual fulfillment.
Although the concept of restricted rewards within a limited arena seemed intriguing, witnessing numerous players manipulating their scores through cheating is extremely disheartening for those who initially were eager to take on the challenge.
Modding Has Always Been A Grey Area For The Monster Hunter Franchise
An Unavoidable Aspect Of The Monster Hunter Community
As an ardent fan, I’ve noticed that even though Capcom doesn’t endorse modding in Monster Hunter, they seem to be primarily cracking down on players who misuse mods for cheating, bypassing paid content, or disrupting other gamers’ experiences. With arena quests now linking to exclusive in-game cosmetics, there’s a possibility that Capcom might toughen their stance against modding across the board. Such a move could have a profound impact on the Monster Hunter community as a whole.
For decades, mods have played a crucial role in enhancing the hunting experience, offering everything from significant gameplay enhancements such as implementing essential quality-of-life features in MH Wilds, to bug fixes and performance upgrades. Additionally, they provide an abundance of harmless cosmetic content. Although some gameplay mods like health bars or those that seem to diminish the game’s challenge are generally criticized by the community, as long as they don’t interfere with other players’ experiences, most mods pose no issues on their own.
It’s fortunate that Capcom opted to distribute rewards post-limited arena quest instead of during, allowing them to easily remove scores that appear manipulated. However, it may still be difficult to distinguish the realistic ones from genuine ones. Ideally, Monster Hunter Rise could strike a balance in handling cheaters without inconveniencing legitimate mod users. For now, the main alteration to arena quests might not yield significant results until the issue with cheating is properly addressed.
