Why Martin from Oblivion Feels So Familiar: The Surprising Connection You Missed

In many instances, I find myself revisiting games such as “Oblivion Remastered” multiple times to savor them fully. Eagerness to uncover the main story’s conclusion often has me rushing through the game initially. However, I return for a more meticulous playthrough, aiming to explore every nook and cranny. It’s also enjoyable to experiment with different character builds and abilities on each pass. To my surprise during my latest session, I stumbled upon a fact about Martin that had escaped me during my first playthrough.

There was something incredibly recognizable about Martin, but given the prevalence of versatile voice actors in video games, it didn’t come as a shock to me when I realized his voice bore a striking resemblance to another character’s. However, upon researching who voices Martin in Oblivion, I was taken aback to learn that he is voiced by one of my beloved actors from cinema and television.

Martin Is Played By LOTR & Game Of Thrones’ Sean Bean

Sean Bean Is Well Known For Fantasy Roles

In this scenario, Sean Bean is the actor who takes on the role of Martin. He’s most famously recognized for his portrayals as Ned Stark in “Game of Thrones” and Boromir in “The Lord of the Rings”. Even though I was aware that Bean has a long-standing career in films and television, I didn’t anticipate that I’d already been listening to his voice in various games without recognizing it. In fact, Bean served as the narrator for “Civilization 6”, and he also played Regis Lucis Caelum in “Final Fantasy 15”. Moreover, Bean has appeared in one of the live-action adaptations of “Silent Hill”.

It’s safe to say that a lot of people might have recognized Sean Bean as being in Oblivion when it first came out in 2006. Given that The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King had just been released three years prior, fans of fantasy would likely have been thrilled to see an actor from the trilogy appearing in a game like Oblivion. However, I personally didn’t play Oblivion when it was initially launched. The sudden release of Oblivion Remastered took me by surprise, and as a result, I never investigated who was in the game, although in retrospect, I should have deduced it myself.

Martin Even Looks A Bit Like Sean Bean In Oblivion

Martin’s Model Has Similar Hair To Sean Bean’s Fantasy Characters

With Sean Bean being cast as Martin in Oblivion, it’s quite clear now. Not only does his voice resonate familiarly, but there’s a striking similarity between Martin and Sean Bean. In fact, when playing Boromir and Ned Stark, Sean Bean sported the same medium-length hair that Martin has, and even the color and style are remarkably alike.

It’s quite possible that this was a deliberate move on the part of the Oblivion development team, given their high-profile casting choice. Since they secured an actor from one of the most famous fantasy films, it seems unlikely they would downplay such a notable addition. However, there are some other actors in Oblivion whose presence might not be immediately apparent to viewers.

Oblivion’s Cast Includes Several Familiar Faces

Sean Bean Is Joined By Lynda Carter, Terrance Stamp, And Patrick Stewart In Oblivion’s Cast

When examining the cast of Oblivion, I discovered an interesting tidbit: Lynda Carter, famous for playing Wonder Woman, provides the voices for female Nords and Orcs in the game. Interestingly enough, she had previously voiced Nords in Morrowind, and lends her voice to several characters in both Skyrim and The Elder Scrolls Online. It seems that even in Oblivion, there was a file for an unused NPC named Lynda Carter, a Nord woman. Had this character been included in the game’s cast, her connection to Carter would have been more apparent than it is in the final version of the game.

It came as a surprise to me too, discovering that Mankar Camoran, head of the Order of the Mythic Dawn, was portrayed by Terrance Stamp. If you’re familiar with superheroes, you might recognize him as General Zod from Superman 2 and Jor-El in Smallville. Previously, I had been aware that the emperor in Oblivion Remastered was voiced by Patrick Stewart. However, I hadn’t realized just how many well-known actors were featured within the game.
