Why Little Jack’s Diabetes Could Save When Calls the Heart Season 13!

In simpler terms, “Season 12 has successfully quieted down those who criticized it as dull (even me),” and “When Calls the Heart has recently unveiled a captivating plot twist that could tear our hearts apart… and potentially guarantee another season, Season 13.

If you’re simultaneously enjoying When Calls the Heart and The Way Home on Hallmark, you’ll understand the dramatic shift in mood I experience each week. To put it mildly, The Way Home can be quite extraordinary, often overwhelming viewers with a multitude of outlandish storylines reminiscent of Riverdale.

Spending time in Hope Valley, on the other hand, seems to be quite the contrast. Our most thrilling plot currently revolves around Mike and Mei’s difficulty in following a cookie recipe, which isn’t particularly captivating. The Garrison gang case has had some tension, but it’s been unpredictable. So why continue tuning in?

As a dedicated fan, I’ve been yearning for Season 13 of When Calls the Heart. However, I must admit, I wasn’t entirely convinced we needed more until now. It seems like the producers have been reading my thoughts because they’ve unleashed a heart-wrenching plot twist that leaves no room for a tidy conclusion within the remaining episodes.

When Calls the Heart putting Little Jack in danger won’t just disappear

As Season 12’s Episode 10 came to a close, Elizabeth and Nathan discovered Little Jack slumped in a bush. Despite acting like a typical six-year-old, constantly expressing hunger and thirst, he was showing signs of something more serious – diabetes, which posed a significant concern.

1921 was a time when diabetes couldn’t be effectively managed as we do now with daily insulin shots. Insulin, a crucial treatment for diabetes, wasn’t even discovered until 1921, let alone made widely available until 1923. In other words, the year is 1921 and Jack doesn’t have access to insulin, which puts him in a precarious position.

In Episode 10, we bid farewell with Elizabeth and Nathan shedding tears, while the sneak peek for Episode 11 hints at Faith proposing an uncertain treatment option for Jack. The situation seems to worsen before it improves, but in a peculiar manner, this is fantastic news for the series.

As a devoted fan, it feels like when “When Calls the Heart” plunges into such depths, it hasn’t been this dark since the tragic landslide took my father from us off-screen. Now, we’re bracing ourselves for the heart-wrenching possibility of losing his son, and even if he survives, facing a lifelong struggle seems to be his destiny at best.

It’s evident that we shouldn’t expect this problem to resolve on its own, and while we enjoy following Elizabeth and Nathan’s romance, or Rosemary’s growing radio career, it’s Jack’s health struggles that make the most compelling case for Season 13’s renewal. After all, who among us wouldn’t want to support a young boy battling illness and his family in need? Even Hallmark wouldn’t turn down such a heartfelt story.

What really captivates viewers about When Calls the Heart is its everyday charm, which includes less dramatic elements compared to shows like those on Netflix. However, there’s still a need for some excitement or ‘zest’ in the series.

Frankly, it was surprising that Hallmark chose to have Jack develop diabetes in the series, especially since the episode synopsis suggested only a runny nose. I was taken aback when I watched the final scenes. However, as they say, “expect the unexpected,” and this decision helped to renew the show after an 11-year run.

In the upcoming weeks, you’ll find “When Calls the Heart” Season 12 gracing your screens weekly on the Hallmark Channel.
