Why is Stephen King under fire? Epstein files claim explained

I, as a gaming enthusiast, am always intrigued by the opinions of legends like Stephen King. However, lately, his views on the Epstein files have sparked quite a stir, with many expressing disagreement.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but notice the buzz surrounding the Epstein files yet again. The fire has been ignited, thanks to Elon Musk’s recent suggestion that Donald Trump’s name might be tucked away in those files, amidst their high-profile spat.

To put it simply, for those not already familiar, these files are court records, flight data, testimony from witnesses, and various pieces of evidence associated with the deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his criminal associates. As of now, the government has made public only a portion of these documents; the rest continue to be kept confidential.

A multitude of individuals called for complete transparency, yet it’s unlikely anyone anticipated the involvement of renowned author Stephen King, known for his work in IT and The Shining. Please be advised, some might find this material disturbing.

What did Stephen King say about the Epstein files?

As a follower, I find myself expressing my viewpoint regarding King’s recent online comments about the authenticity of the Epstein file debate. In a tweet dated July 15th, he humorously suggested that both the Epstein client list and the Tooth Fairy/Santa Claus are equally real. However, I personally believe in the existence of the Epstein client list, given the significance of such information to uncovering the truth behind his untimely death.

The Epstein client list is real.
So is the Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus.

The tweet has received a large number of critical responses, as many users are expressing their outrage about his disregard for the list and alleging that he is minimizing the problem.

One person asked, “What made you decide to share this? What benefit were you aiming for with your perspective?” Another remarked, “Come on, it’s obvious that Epstein had contacts whose names could have been collected.

It seems like we should get rid of our Stephen King book collection, suggested the third. But a fourth interjected, “Why is Ghislaine Maxwell incarcerated, Stephen? Who provided the flight logs? And what about the allegations in court documents by girls who were minors at the time?

Some people have gone even further by proposing his name might be among those accused, yet it’s crucial to underline that no proof exists to substantiate such claims.

Is the Epstein client list real?

Although the authenticity of the Epstein files was accepted, the U.S. Department of Justice and FBI recently determined that the supposed client list is indeed fictitious.

Many people who follow this case believe that Epstein had a notable circle of influential acquaintances who might also be connected to his alleged criminal activities.

It’s proposed that he employed the list to extort influential people connected to his global child trafficking network, and it’s possible that one or more individuals from this list could have arranged for his assassination in prison, as a means to conceal their involvement.

Back in July 2025, after a thorough investigation by the DOJ and FBI, I found no evidence of a client list that could implicate me in any wrongdoing. The report stated clearly that the review was comprehensive and found nothing incriminating.

“Additionally, we didn’t discover any substantial proof suggesting that Epstein used blackmail on notable figures in connection with his activities. No evidence was found that would warrant probing unindicted third parties.”

This version maintains the original’s meaning while using simpler language and a more conversational tone, making it easier for most readers to understand.

The probe found out that contrary to common assumption, Epstein actually took his own life in his prison cell on the 10th of August, 2019.

Additionally, a video recording from the shared area of the Secure Housing Unit where Epstein resided at the time of his passing provides evidence that strengthens the theory he took his own life.

In 2023, as the Inspector General of the Department of Justice clarified, any individual trying to access or enter the section housing Jeffrey Epstein’s cell from the shared area of the Special Housing Unit would have been recorded on camera.

Despite this, it’s puzzling to many online users that a horror novelist, whose stories have been transformed into numerous TV productions and films, has decided to participate in the project.

Stephen King responds to the fallout

The response to his statement was quite strong, causing King himself to address it and stand firm in his position. In another tweet, he stated, “Apparently I struck a chord with my post about Epstein. The ‘list’ is as elusive as unidentified flying objects – everyone seems to know someone who has allegedly seen it.

It seems I touched a sensitive spot with my recent post about Epstein. Just like everyone claims to know someone who’s spotted a UFO, it appears that many people have some connection to this story. 😂

Once more, my post seems to have sparked a storm of reactions. “Another masterpiece from Stephen King,” exclaimed one fan, while another posed the question, “Why don’t you entertain the idea of the Epstein list?

Another person chimed in, “It’s a bit puzzling as to why you’re taking Trump’s side on this matter, given that you’ve been a vocal critic for over a decade. Could you clarify your stance on the issue?

The final remark is about Musk suggesting that Trump’s name appears on a list, with additional criticism following the decision made by the DOJ and FBI.

More recently, a group of Democratic representatives penned a six-page missive to Attorney General Pam Bondi, alleging that she deliberately kept some documents related to Epstein from being disclosed in order to shield Trump.

In simpler terms, the letter expresses concern because your actions seem to fit a repeated scheme, suggesting they may involve hiding proof of illegal activities attributed to President Trump, potentially linked to documents from the Epstein case.

Today’s message requests an immediate disclosure of the Smith report, along with any records related to or implicating Donald Trump found within the Epstein documents.

As a devoted gamer, I’m puzzled about why King decided to jump into the Epstein conversation, and honestly, his reaction isn’t sitting well with many of us fans right now.
