Glen Powell has quickly become a major Hollywood star, with recent successes in films like *Twisters* and *Top Gun: Maverick*. However, he once felt like he’d truly arrived after landing a role in *The Expendables 3*, marking an early milestone in his career.
This week, actor Rob Powell appeared on the podcast *Therapuss With Jake Shane* to talk about his upcoming series, *Chad Powers*, which will debut soon. He shared a story from his early twenties, recalling a period when he had to be very careful with his money.
Living in Los Angeles, especially for a long time, often means constantly watching your spending. Every little bit counts. You really have to stretch your resources – even something like a rotisserie chicken becomes a calculation of how many meals you can get out of it. I used to go out to dinner with friends, but I couldn’t afford to pay my share of the bill.
After graduating high school, the Texas native moved to Los Angeles following his appearance in *The Great Debaters* alongside Denzel Washington, and he never regretted it. However, he recently shared that his success wasn’t immediate. He spent years carefully saving money, even avoiding restaurants to cut costs. He even admitted to carrying a flask in his boot to avoid buying drinks when he went out. Things changed when he landed a role in *The Expendables 3*, which significantly improved his financial situation, as he explained.
I wasn’t paid much at first, but after working there for several months, I earned a decent amount – actually, it was the most money I’d ever made. I think it was around $70,000. I remember finally being able to afford small things without worrying about the cost, like a simple cup of coffee.
Glen Powell recently revealed he earned very little at the beginning of filming the 2014 movie with a huge cast including Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, and Arnold Schwarzenegger. However, being involved for several months allowed his earnings to increase significantly, improving his financial situation. Beyond the money, he also enjoyed the experience of working with so many famous actors and has a funny story about his time with Sylvester Stallone.

Hulu is offering a 30-day free trial for both its ad-supported and ad-free plans. This means you can watch everything on Hulu, including the new show *Chad Powers* starring Glen Powell, which premieres on September 30th, completely free for a month. After the trial, plans start at $9.99 per month. Check out the deal here!
Josh Powell shared a story about his payment for *The Expendables 3* that highlights how hard it is for actors to find steady work in Hollywood, particularly when they’re still building their careers. Though it took time for Powell to land leading roles, he emphasizes that every job, no matter how small, was important. He specifically remembers and appreciates a minor role he had in *The Dark Knight Rises*.
Glen Powell’s new comedy series, *Chad Powers*, starts streaming on Tuesday. He plays a college football player who tries to reinvent himself after a scandal by going undercover as someone else. I’m really looking forward to that, and also to *The Running Man*, which comes out in theaters on November 14th.
