Why Fantastic Four’s Franklin Richards could be the most powerful character in the MCU

The Fantastic Four has recently unveiled one of the strongest, arguably even the strongest, characters within the Marvel universe: Franklin Richards. Proceed with caution as there are spoilers ahead…

Instead of focusing on the mighty figures like Thanos, Scarlet Witch, Captain Marvel, and Doctor Doom, remember that Franklin Richards stands out exceptionally. While these characters are indeed impressive (as depicted in Avengers: Doomsday), Franklin Richards operates in a category of his own.

In a fresh take on the F4 film, it opens with Sue discovering her pregnancy, and following the birth of their son, Franklin, the discussion ensues as to whether he inherits the superpowers shared by his parents.

Apart from possessing exceptional skills, it’s likely that his powers surpass those of the Fantastic Four if the Marvel Cinematic Universe stays true to the original comic books.

Franklin Richards powers & abilities explained

In the thrilling finale of Fantastic Four, it turns out I was the one who, maybe unknowingly, revived Sue after her heroic battle against Galactus. This suggests that I possess the power to bring people back from the dead, but that’s merely a glimpse into my extraordinary abilities.

In the world of comic books, Franklin exhibits divine-like abilities, comparable to those of a Cosmic Entity such as a Celestial. Not only has he demonstrated the ability to best one, but two Celestials in direct combat. His power set is often referred to as “reality manipulation”, although it’s vast and complex, making it challenging for opponents to find effective counters.

He possesses extraordinary abilities that include mind-reading, manipulating objects with his thoughts, and emitting potent energy bursts. Furthermore, he can alter the composition of matter and energy at a fundamental level, and has the capacity to generate miniature universes; a past version of him was even capable of summoning an extensive multiverse.

As a gamer stepping into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I’m young and full of potential, but there’s still a lot I need to learn about my capabilities. I might not showcase all my powers right away because I’m yet to understand my limits and what I can do in the future. It’s an exciting journey of self-discovery!

In the film, Galactus is aiming to capture Franklin due to his ability to quell Galactus’ eternal hunger, thus giving Galactus a chance for repose and designating Richards as his replacement. They share a rich backstory in the comics; in one instance, Franklin revives Galactus to confront the Celestials together, and in another narrative, Franklin appoints Galactus as his personal emissary.

While it’s not definitively proven, there’s a common belief that Franklin, in the MCU, might be immortal. Yet, the reasons behind his immense power within the Marvel Cinematic Universe are still vague. In the comics, he is often depicted as having the Power Cosmic – an incredible, seemingly endless energy source. Given that the Fantastic Four gained their powers from cosmic rays during a space voyage, it’s plausible we’ll eventually receive an explanation about Franklin’s abilities.

Franklin Richards has his own superhero name

Franklin Richards also goes by the name Powerhouse in the Marvel comics.

In issue #2 of Fantastic Four Volume 6 from 2018, I initially adopted that pseudonym as I crafted a realm for the team to delve into, where we could embark on incredible adventures together.

The name is pretty self-explanatory: he is a powerhouse in every sense, and there’s not much more to it.
