This movie found the ex-DSS agent and the ex-MI6 agent teaming up under government orders to thwart a sinister plot involving the release of a lethal virus. Their past was marked by intense animosity, but they found common ground to collaborate in this mission.
Regardless of not directly following the primary storyline of the Fast and Furious series, Hobbs & Shaw managed to rake in an impressive $760.7 million against a production budget of only $200 million, demonstrating that audiences were eager for more of Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham. The chemistry between these two characters was just as captivating as any Vin Diesel-led installment, and the film served to broaden Johnson’s franchise and character development. Unfortunately, a sequel, Hobbs & Shaw 2, did not come to fruition.
Luke Hobbs Returned To The Main Fast & Furious Franchise At The End Of Fast X
Dwayne Johnson Was In The Fast X Post-Credit Scene
In the latest Fast X movie, Dom and his crew encounter a new menace, but this new threat is connected to the film where Dwayne Johnson first joined the franchise – Fast Five. In Fast Five, the team aimed at a merciless drug lord named Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida). They managed to steal his fortune by stealing his entire vault, and their getaway culminated in Hobbs killing Reyes during the final confrontation. In Fast X, it is revealed that Dante Reyes (Jason Momoa), son of Hernan, was present throughout the events of Fast Five, as he is shown in several edited scenes watching the team kill his father.
In the movie “Fast X”, Dante is seen taking revenge on Dom and his team throughout the film. By the end, they found themselves in a perilous situation, with Dom and his son seemingly moments away from death before the climax introduced a massive cliffhanger. To please fans, the movie included an additional scene after the credits: Hobbs, played by Johnson, reappears, discovering a message from Dante that hinted he was planning to target Hobbs next.
Dwayne Johnson’s Fast & Furious Future After Fast X Explained
Will Hobbs Return In Fast X: Part 2?
Although it was thrilling for viewers to witness Dwayne Johnson reappear in a Fast and Furious film, even if only during the credits, this doesn’t automatically mean that Hobbs will return for Fast X: Part 2 scheduled for release in June 2026, which is expected to conclude the mainline films in the series. The production has faced delays, and in 2023, Johnson hinted at a “bridge” between Fast X: Part 2 and a new spinoff film that may serve as a prelude to it.
Currently, Johnson shared a message on social media stating, “In the near future, you’ll find the iconic lawman in the HOBBS film, which will mark a new beginning and pave the way for FAST X: Part II.” As of now, there’s no official confirmation from the studio regarding Fast X: Part 2, but it has been scheduled for release. However, Chris Morgan, who wrote Hobbs & Shaw, expressed uncertainty about future plans in November 2024, hinting that the production of the Hobbs movie might be challenging to complete before the next installment of The Fast and the Furious series hits the screens.
