Season 1 of *One-Punch Man* was amazing, but season 2 was a noticeable step down in quality. Many fans wondered what caused this sudden decline after such a strong and promising beginning.
Madhouse animated the first season of *One-Punch Man* with director Shingo Natsume leading a team of skilled artists, resulting in a fantastic show. However, when it was time to begin season two, both Natsume and Madhouse were unable to return. While the exact reason wasn’t officially stated, Natsume later explained he felt creatively restricted and couldn’t fully realize his vision.
The production of the anime *One-Punch Man* was unexpectedly transferred from its original team to J.C.Staff, with no public reason given. Natsume, the artist who previously worked on the show, hinted that J.C.Staff may have wanted to use their own in-house director for the project, leading to his departure. Chikara Sakurai then became the new director. However, the second season wasn’t well-received, and fans noticed a decline in the show’s overall quality.
While the second season of *One-Punch Man* wasn’t as popular as the first, the studio J.C.Staff was brought back to create a third season. This time, however, a new director, Shinpei Nagai, took the helm, and the first episodes of his season premiered in the fall of 2025.
What other anime has J.C.Staff produced?
J.C. Staff is a well-established animation studio with a long history of popular series. While they’re known for One-Punch Man, they’ve also created many other beloved shows, including Toradora!, Nodame Cantabile, Kaichou wa Maid-sama!, Bakuman, Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, and Edens Zero.
