‘White Lotus’ Star Walton Goggins Went to the Hospital After Snake Bite on Set: ‘Am I Dying a Slow Death?’

In episode 3 of “The White Lotus” Season 3, Walton Goggins sets free numerous dangerous snakes, causing his character’s partner, Chelsea (played by Aimee Lou Wood), to be bitten and subsequently taken to the hospital. Interestingly, it was actually Walton Goggins himself who experienced a real-life snake bite during filming.

On “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the actor, known for portraying the character Rick Hatchett (a Thailand tourist with a miserable streak), shared an anecdote. Before he started, he admitted, “I have a deep-seated fear of snakes.

Goggins stated, “It’s not just a fear I have, but it feels as if I lack a connection when it comes to snakes. There seems to be some kind of genetic anomaly in my makeup regarding these creatures.

The setting was at an enclosure housing numerous snakes, where Goggins needed to unlock several terrariums and carefully handle the reptiles for release. A snake expert present provided him with instructions on which of the creatures were safe to handle, and which ones posed potential danger, even fatal.

The event unfolded within a serpent-filled environment, where Goggins was tasked with unlocking terrariums and picking up snakes to set them free. A snake handler on the scene guided him on which of the scaly creatures were safe to touch, while warning about those that could be lethal.

In essence, for Rick Hatchett, the snakes symbolized himself. Symbolically, by letting go of the snakes, he was asking for someone to free him from his agony. This allegory had no significance on that particular day.” – Goggins explained, establishing the scene.

The first time I handled a snake, I broke down in tears,” Goggins explained. As he attempted to remove one of the creatures, it proved reluctant, darting towards him and sinking its fangs into him.

Goggins expressed that he wished he could have stayed calm in response to the bite, but instead, he exclaimed, ‘Oh my goodness, I’ve just been bitten by a snake!’

With nine hours still remaining for the day’s shoot, Goggins tended to his wound with some Neosporin before moving on to the next take. However, a producer from “White Lotus” phoned him the following day, suggesting, “We’ve been contemplating this… perhaps it would be best if you visited the hospital.

Goggins responded: “Why should I? You said the snake wasn’t venomous. Is this a slow poisoning then?” Nevertheless, he indeed visited the hospital and received a preventive injection.
