‘White Lotus’ Alum Haley Lu Richardson Joins Emilia Clarke in Peacock Spy Thriller Series ‘Ponies’

As a seasoned cinephile who has witnessed the rise and shine of numerous talented actresses, I must say that Haley Lu Richardson continues to captivate my attention with her diverse and compelling performances. Her ability to seamlessly transition between small-screen dramas like “The White Lotus” and big-screen films such as “Split,” “The Edge of Seventeen,” and “Columbus” is truly commendable.

Actress Haley Lu Richardson will take on a leading part alongside Emilia Clarke in the forthcoming Peacock series titled “Ponies,” as EbMaster reports.

Back in August, the series was officially greenlit on Peacock, and Clarke was cast as one of the main characters. This intriguing spy-thriller unfolds in Moscow during the year 1977.

The official description states:

Two individuals, referred to as ‘Ponies’ or ‘persons of no interest’, maintain secretarial roles at the American Embassy. However, their lives take a dramatic turn when their spouses mysteriously perish in the Soviet Union. Subsequently, they transition into CIA operatives. Bea, played by Clarke, is a Russian-speaking woman with extensive education, having been born to Soviet immigrants. Her counterpart, Twila, portrayed by Richardson, hails from a small town and exhibits a rough demeanor, yet she demonstrates remarkable courage. United in their quest, they aim to expose a wide-reaching Cold War conspiracy and unravel the mystery surrounding their husbands’ deaths.

In a similar vein as Emily Clarke who garnered acclaim for her part in “Game of Thrones”, Richardson also received numerous accolades for her performance in an HBO series. Specifically, Richardson’s recognition stemmed from Season 2 of “The White Lotus,” where she played Portia, the personal assistant to Jennifer Coolidge’s character Tanya McQuoid. Outside of this TV role, Richardson is well-known for her film work, appearing in movies such as “Split”, “The Edge of Seventeen”, “Columbus”, “Support the Girls”, and “Unpregnant”.

She is repped by Gersh, Viewpoint, and Sloane Offer.

The series titled “Ponies” is the brainchild of Susanna Fogel, David Iserson, and other creators. Susanna Fogel will also take on the role of director for this show, while Iserson and Mike Daniels will share the responsibilities as co-showrunners. Additionally, Clarke will serve as an executive producer, alongside her acting role. Jessica Rhoades will act as an executive producer under her Pacesetter Productions label. Alison Mo Massey from Pacesetter will co-executive produce, with Katherine Bridle joining the team in this capacity as well. Universal Television is responsible for its production.
