The action-adventure game Where Winds Meet launched on November 14th to mostly positive feedback. It quickly gained popularity, attracting over 2 million players within its first day. The game continues to have a strong and engaged community, with around 250,000 players currently active on Steam and a lively online discussion forum.
A special feature of Where Winds Meet is that many characters are powered by AI chatbots you can talk to. Building relationships with these characters actually requires you to have conversations with the AI. By chatting with them, you can gain their favor and receive rewards like gifts. Interestingly, some players have discovered ways to get these benefits without actually having full conversations with the AI.
The ‘Metal Gear Method’ Quickly Increases NPC Affection
A Reddit user named Hakkix shared a funny conversation they had with an NPC chatbot called Barn Rat in the “Where Winds Meet” community. Hakkix responded to everything Barn Rat said by turning the chatbot’s last few words into a question, mimicking the way Solid Snake speaks in the Metal Gear games. Surprisingly, Barn Rat thanked Hakkix at the end, even though Hakkix never actually told him where the grain storage location was!
Hakkix cleverly convinced an NPC they’d completed a task simply by repeating what the NPC wanted, even though they hadn’t actually done it. Other players discovered similar tricks, like roleplaying actions within parentheses, mimicking how NPCs communicate – for example, saying “(tells a perfect place to store grain)” without providing any details. Some players even described entire battles happening through parenthetical dialogue. Others shared even stranger strategies, like convincing an NPC to get a divorce to resolve his work-related unhappiness. Despite the game Where Winds Meet offering many free rewards, many players still enjoy maximizing gifts from NPCs.
Players in Where Winds Meet are finding creative ways to interact with the game’s AI characters, and this isn’t the first instance of them exploiting unusual behavior. One player on Reddit, MisterZan25, even managed to convince an NPC named Zhao Dali that they were expecting his child – all in a game that doesn’t have any romantic relationships with NPCs! It seems surprisingly easy to trick the AI into believing strange things, letting players essentially ‘confuse’ the characters and, along with the previously discovered ‘Solid Snake method‘, get extra rewards. It’s unclear if the developers, Everstone Studio, will fix this, but players are likely to keep using these tricks to get more gifts for as long as it works.
