Where Winds Meet: Gathering of Heroes Quest Guide

As a huge fan of Where Winds Meet, I can tell you that “The Gathering of Heroes” is a really pivotal quest in Chapter 2. It’s where you first meet a lot of the key players and factions, and it introduces this really intriguing thing called the Gold-Making Vessel. Honestly, it’s packed with everything – cool cutscenes, moments where you have to sneak around in disguise, exciting fights, and a massive plot twist that completely sets the stage for everything else that happens in the chapter. It’s a must-play!

Gathering of Heroes Quest Walkthrough

Before starting the Gathering of Heroes quest, grab the Kaifeng Map at the city gate and activate the Boundary Stones by the southern entrance. Doing this will make getting around much easier later in Chapter 2.

Meet Big Zhao and Enter the Revelry Hall

Once you reach Revelry Hall, talk to Big Zhao. He’ll tell you he wasn’t able to get an official Assembly Ticket, but he’s come up with another way to get in. Instead of using the main entrance, you’ll sneak in with the help of a boatman. After you get on the boat, you’ll watch a series of cutscenes that will take you right to the center of the Heroes Assembly.

As you arrive, you’ll see famous martial artists gathered near Revelry Hall, with the Velvet Shade Disciples stationed at the entrance. Trouble starts when a pair known as the Joyous Couple confronts the guards, but things quickly get out of hand. Suddenly, Wen Wuque, known as the Ember of East, arrives and immediately defeats the Joyous Couple with a single, powerful coin.

Following the chaotic introduction, you manage to pull yourself together and accompany Big Zhao as he looks for a discreet way to enter. His plan is straightforward: they’ll steal uniforms belonging to the Velvet Shade Disciples and use them as a disguise. Once you change, the disguise works perfectly, allowing you to enter without anyone noticing.

As you get closer to the gate, a careful follower stops your group and asks about Big Zhao’s covered face. You can only proceed if you tell the follower he has ringworm.

Inside the Velvet Shade’s Inner Chamber

After entering, keep following Big Zhao through the grand hall prepared for the Heroes Assembly. As you walk through the corridors, you’ll find the third floor, which houses the private chamber of the Ember of East. Entering the chamber triggers a long cutscene that introduces key characters like Lord Shi, the representative from the Song Dynasty, Dao Lord, and Shen Yilun, an official from the Ever-Normal Granary.

Okay, so this is the big moment – they finally showed off the Gold-Making Vessel! The Ember of East was demonstrating how it works, and honestly, it was amazing – gold coins were just flowing out everywhere! But then, totally out of nowhere, there was this huge explosion that ruined everything!

It was insane! Lord Shi suddenly collapsed, but thankfully his guards caught him. Then, just as everyone was reeling, this massive eagle swooped down and grabbed the treasure right out of the air! Total chaos erupted – all the heroes immediately started fighting over who deserved it. It was a free-for-all!

The Illusion Fight

Things really kicked off when I suddenly found myself in this weird illusion, like I was holding some super important Gold-Making Vessel. That’s when the battle really started. Seriously, enemies just kept pouring in from everywhere! I had to take down wave after wave to get anywhere. The arena wasn’t very big, so I had to be smart about where I stood and dodge a lot to survive.

Once you escape the false reality, you’ll still face enemies on all sides. But just when things seem hopeless, Big Zhao shows up to offer assistance.

So, Lord Shi asks about the bag I’m carrying, hoping it has the Gold-Making Vessel. Turns out, it’s a bust – it’s not in there! That totally changes things and throws another big twist into the quest.

The Prefect’s Deal and the Soulbreaker Pill

The top official in Kaifeng rushed to the scene after the brawl and immediately requested to examine the Gold-Making Vessel. To everyone’s surprise, it had been replaced with a simple chamber pot. Because you and Big Zhao went inside without proper authorization, all suspicion fell on the two of you.

Big Zhao is speaking up for you, insisting you couldn’t have stolen anything, but the Prefect isn’t convinced. He gives you a grim choice: find the true thief within seven days, or face death by poison.

You’ll have to react to the situation in one of three ways: resist, surrender, or accept the offer. However, no matter which path you choose, you’ll ultimately be forced to swallow the Soulbreaker Pill.

Once you consume the pill, the Prefect takes Big Zhao aside for a private discussion.

Investigate For Clues

As the danger of the pill hangs over you, start looking for clues. Begin by going to a nearby balcony and listening to a heated discussion between Big Zhao and the Prefect. You’ll discover a surprising connection: they are actually brothers.

Once your conversation with Big Zhao is over and he’s back with you, you’re free to look around the building. When you’re ready, go upstairs to check out where the explosion happened. You’ll find an important clue – a Broken Mask – on a table by the wall. Grab it and show it to Big Zhao.

He mentions a contact who might be able to identify the mask – a renowned expert from Kaifeng known as Master Pu.

Meet the Know-It-All

Now, use the Boundary Stones to quickly travel to the Entertainment District. You’ll meet Big Zhao there, and the two of you will approach Master Pu, a very knowledgeable man from Kaifeng. Before he’ll talk to you, make sure to pick up a book called “The Analects” that’s lying on the ground near him.

So, I showed Master Pu the Broken Mask, and he told me it’s connected to this super secretive group called the Nine Mortal Ways. He couldn’t tell me much about them, but he did say how to get in touch. Apparently, I need to find someone called the Ferryman. He hangs out in the Forsaken Quarter, which is southeast of Kaifeng. Time to head there, I guess!

After the cutscene finishes, the Gathering of Heroes quest is complete, and you’ll be ready to start the next big story in Chapter 2.
