MIO: Memories in Orbit consistently introduces fresh areas packed with hidden secrets and challenging new bosses. Like classic Metroidvania games, progress is blocked until you gain new abilities or find key items.
Discovering keys hidden around the world is a major highlight. The search itself encourages exploration, making the experience much more fun.
In MIO, the Old Fashioned Key is particularly important. It unlocks a key area that progresses you into the last several hours of the game.
If you’re feeling lost in the world of MIO, don’t worry! This guide will explain what the Old Fashioned Key is, where to find it, and how to use it.
What Is The Old Fashioned Key?

The Old Fashioned Key in MIO: Memories in Orbit is an antique item that hints at a rich history. It suggests the game’s world has a past stretching back before the current, futuristic setting, implying a deeper and older story than what’s immediately visible.
Like other collectible items in the game, the Old Fashioned Key is used to unlock a specific door. It works similarly to items like the Hunter’s Badge and Oedon Tomb Key from Bloodborne – you use it once to move forward in the game.
Where To Find It
Okay, so if you’re trying to find the Old Fashioned Key, here’s what I figured out. You need to go to a specific spot, and it’s easiest starting from the City Gates – you know, where you attune? From there, head to the left. You’ll definitely want to make sure you’ve gotten the Hairpin upgrade first, because it’s like a grappling hook and you’ll need it to get around!
You can climb upwards by using Hairpin turns and boosting yourself with the crystals. Continue moving to the left until you find a room at the bottom.
Once inside, you can descend into the pit where you’ll face a boss named Calderon. He’s a powerful enemy known for his strong attacks.
Once you defeat Calderon, you’ll be able to enter the next room and find the Old Fashioned Key. After you get it, we can move forward to the area where you’ll need to use it.
Where To Use It
The entrance to the Hall of History, unlocked by the Old Fashioned Key, isn’t hard to locate – it’s a short walk from the boss’s office.

After your battle with Calderon, take the Hairpin path to return to the upper level. Then, head to your right to find the exit, which leads down to the Hall of History.
Go through the door, and then continue on. This part of the game is noticeably more difficult, so make sure you’re ready and equip any new upgrades you’ve discovered before moving forward.
