Where to find Sandstar for I Caught A Shooting Star – Monster Hunter Wilds

In Monster Hunter Wilds, the Sandstar creature isn’t only beneficial for Samin’s research paper. Instead, catching a Sandstar is what unlocks the “I Caught A Shooting Star” achievement as well. However, locating a Sandstar can be quite challenging without prior knowledge, and Monster Hunter Wilds isn’t particularly forthcoming about its details.

In our Monster Hunter Wilds Sandstar manual, we highlight its hidden location and explain the steps required to capture it, earning you the I Caught a Shooting Star award.

Monster Hunter Wilds: Sandstar location

As a keen explorer, I’m on the hunt for an intriguing creature known as a Sandstar. Picture a tiny, blue, furry mouse-like figure standing tall on impossibly thin, spindly legs, thriving in the desert regions of the Windward Plains. More specifically, you can find it in the desert north of Area 13’s oasis, where you might also catch a Gravid Bowfin, and to the west of Area 16. This elusive Sandstar makes its appearance exclusively under the cover of night during either the season of fallow or the season of plenty.

The Sandstar appears dazzling upon sight, yet eludes you when you get near, whether you creep or rush towards it. Catching up to it for a successful grab with the capture net is impossible, and even if you do, the catch won’t be recognized.

If you want to alter time and weather conditions, locate your tent at any campsite, select the “rest” feature, then pick the suitable season and time. If a Sandstar doesn’t show up, feel free to quickly travel outside the region, return, and search again. Set up a temporary camp in Area 16 to avoid having to travel back to the Sandstar’s location at night.

Monster Hunter Wilds: How to catch Sandstar

To trap a Sandstar, you need to initially stun it by firing a Screamer Pod. These pods can be obtained by utilizing your sling hook on Baunos, the tiny flying creatures inhabiting Windward Plains. Once you’ve fired the pod, promptly switch to your capture net and release it. If all goes well, you’ll catch the Sandstar, earn some guild points, and unlock the I Caught A Shooting Star achievement. After that, return the creature to Samin to complete his quest.
