The first trailer for the new Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, and David Fincher film, “The Adventures of Cliff Booth,” debuted during the 2026 Super Bowl, and it will be available to stream on Netflix before you know it.
The Super Bowl is primarily a major sporting event, but with over 125 million viewers, it’s also a prime chance for movie studios to advertise their new films.
Despite Robert Downey Jr. wearing a jersey referencing the villain Doctor Doom, Marvel didn’t appear in any commercials this year. There were no trailers shown for upcoming projects like ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ or ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.
Several exciting trailers were revealed, including previews for Scream 7, The Mandalorian & Grogu, Supergirl, Project Hail Mary, and the highly anticipated The Adventures of Cliff Booth.
When is The Adventures of Cliff Booth on Netflix?

While a firm date hasn’t been announced, Variety reported that “The Adventures of Cliff Booth” is expected to be released in theaters and on Netflix in the summer of 2026.
This new film starring Brad Pitt continues the story from Quentin Tarantino’s popular 2019 movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It was surprisingly announced on April 1st, 2025, at CinemaCon, which made some people think it was an April Fool’s joke.
Things became even more complicated because Quentin Tarantino rarely makes sequels – with Kill Bill being a notable exception – and this project would have involved him collaborating with director David Fincher, known for films like Mindhunter and Fight Club.
It didn’t take long to confirm the project was happening, as Netflix officially purchased the script from Tarantino and scheduled filming to begin between July 2025 and January 2026.
Who’s in the cast?

As previously mentioned, Brad Pitt will once again play stuntman Cliff Booth in the upcoming film, and Timothy Olyphant is back as James Stacy. The rest of the cast includes:
- Scott Caan
- Elizabeth Debicki
- Yahya Abdul-Mateen II
- Carla Gugino
- Holt McCallany
- Corey Fogelmanis
- JB Tadena
It’s surprising that none of these actors were in Once Upon a Time In Hollywood, and details about their new roles are currently being kept secret.
Is Leonardo DiCaprio returning as Rick Dalton?

I was really hoping Leonardo DiCaprio would pop up in the new movie, especially since he was so great as Rick Dalton in the first one! But sadly, he’s said himself that won’t be happening this time around.
Leonardo DiCaprio told Deadline in December 2025 that while there were initial discussions about his involvement, he won’t be appearing in the story focusing on Cliff Booth. He expressed excitement to see how that story unfolds, just not as a participant.
I believe David Fincher is the ideal director for this project. Both Quentin and I admire his work, and he’s the best person to continue the style and tell this story. It feels like a natural next step for the character Cliff Booth, and I’m really looking forward to seeing what Fincher does with it.
Why Quentin Tarantino isn’t directing

Tarantino’s primary motivation seems to be avoiding repetition. He’s set a personal limit of directing only ten films, and with nine already completed – including well-known titles like Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs – he likely wants each new project to feel fresh and unique.
In a 2014 interview with Deadline, he explained his desire to retire from directing while still at the peak of his abilities. He felt directing was best suited for younger people and wanted a clear connection between his first and last films. He wasn’t criticizing those with different views, but preferred to finish his career while he still felt creatively energized.
I’m aiming to have ten films under my belt, and I have two more to go after this one. It’s not a definite plan, but that’s what I’m hoping for. If I can finish with a strong tenth film, it would be a satisfying way to wrap up my career.
I might make an exception if a really great movie comes along, even if I previously said I was finished. But limiting myself to ten movies and stopping while people are still eager for more – that feels like the perfect approach.

Fans started questioning why Quentin Tarantino isn’t directing a potential ‘Adventures of Cliff Booth’ project, even though he wrote the script. This came up after a user on Reddit brought up the question.
One source said he’s decided to limit himself to directing only ten films. Now that he’s nearing that goal, he’s putting a lot of thought into what his tenth and final movie will be, and seems preoccupied with making the right choice.
Someone else commented that even if this is just a way to bypass his agreement to direct only ten films, they’re still looking forward to seeing this unique blend of styles. They pointed out that Fincher has successfully used a 1970s visual style in the past, as seen in his film Zodiac.
Last year, Quentin Tarantino explained to The Hollywood Reporter why he decided not to direct the film himself.
He said he enjoyed the script, but felt like it wasn’t breaking any new ground and left him feeling uninspired. He wants his next film to be different—he needs to feel lost and explore completely new ideas.
Pitt also explained that Tarantino initially conceived the idea as a single episode for a series, not a full-length film, as he told Deadline last year.
Brad Pitt explained that Quentin Tarantino wrote this as a standalone story featuring a character from ‘Once Upon a Time,’ rather than a direct sequel. Tarantino didn’t want to direct it himself, so David Fincher took on the project instead.
