After a full year, we finally learned from Hargraves what he wanted to share with Elizabeth concerning her deceased spouse, Jack. However, the beginning of When Calls the Heart Season 12 feels somewhat underwhelming.

We’ve been waiting for a whole year to find out what Hargraves had to say about Elizabeth’s husband, Jack. But the start of When Calls the Heart Season 12 is disappointing.

Over the course of Seasons 1 through 5, Elizabeth and Jack were the epitome of a perfect marriage on the popular TV series. Following the rules to a T, they even welcomed a miniature version of Jack into their family.

In Season 5, Jack met an unfortunate end off-camera due to a bizarre landslide incident. After his demise, characters in subsequent seasons, including Elizabeth, were seen pursuing various romantic interests. Eventually, she found herself in a relationship with Nathan by the time Season 11 rolled around.

As for me, I couldn’t help but wonder about ol’ Jack after that dramatic Season 11 finale. Guess what? He’s still a mystery in When Calls the Heart Season 12! So, what’s his deal now? That’s the question on everyone’s lips!

When Calls the Heart Season 12 revealed Jack’s medal had been found

In the first episode of When Calls the Heart Season 12, Hargraves informs Elizabeth that they discovered Jack’s commissioning medal during their dig in the location where he perished.

This situation keeps Elizabeth and Nathan in a persistent state of strain, as it deepens the bond between Little Jack and his father. Meanwhile, Jack proudly displays his medal everywhere – at school and during his equestrian training – causing Nathan to grapple with his personal emotions.

Clearly, Nathan doesn’t desire reminders about his girlfriend’s deceased husband, Jack, yet their shared past runs more profoundly for Nathan. As a Mountie, he never had the opportunity to meet Jack personally, but he holds him in high regard based on tales told by his colleagues. Furthermore, it seems Nathan was destined to join the mission where Jack lost his life.

In the premiere of Season 12, Nathan confides in Elizabeth about the immense guilt he’s carried since his actions led to his own death. For seven whole seasons, he’s been shouldering the weight of what was meant to be his punishment. To make matters worse, he’s also stolen Jack’s love interest from him.

Beyond this, there’s also the impact of the news on their relationship. There seems to be tension between the couple, as Little Jack persistently discusses his medal. Nathan maintains a stoic demeanor for Jack, but is also questioning whether he’s making the right decisions – he doesn’t intend to replace Jack as a father figure.

To be frank, the twist wasn’t quite what we anticipated given the widespread speculation that Jack might not have perished off-screen after all. Just as Dallas resurrected JR in a spectral apparition, it’s conceivable that something similar could have occurred with our former Mountie character.

If other circumstances hadn’t arisen, it’s possible Jack was concealing a deeply troubling truth – one that put Elizabeth in grave danger. Since the Royal Canadian Mounted Police have countless tales about him, it’s not implausible that deceit and concealment ran deep within their ranks.

The medal situation certainly stirs doubts about the future for Nathan and Elizabeth, yet the outcome falls short of the excitement we’ve anticipated for a whole year in search of answers.

Is Jack still alive?

No. Jack very much died in the Season 5 landslide accident, even though we didn’t see it.

In the show ‘When Calls the Heart,’ Jack was involved in a mission at Fort Clay, which took place only two days following his marriage to Elizabeth in an episode titled ‘In My Dreams.’ Although we don’t witness the event, it is later revealed that he passed away, and the town gathers to bid their farewells as they find and recover his body.

Elizabeth struggles with staying in Hope Valley but ultimately knows it is her calling.

In recognition of Jack, the town unveils a school, an event that coincides with the revelation that Elizabeth is expecting a child, who later arrives as a baby boy named Little Jack. As we move into Season 12, we find young Little Jack embarking on his educational journey.

Jack did get his return… in a way

In the Christmas special titled the same as Jack’s name, we received a somewhat symbolic return instead of a physical one. Jack appeared to Abigail Stanton in a dream, requesting her to convey a message to Elizabeth.

Could you tell her that I’m delighted to see her making progress in her life, and also share my admiration for how well she’s handling little Jack? Frankly, I couldn’t be prouder of them both,” he clarifies.

In simple terms, you can find out when each episode of Season 12 of “When Calls the Heart” is being broadcast weekly on the Hallmark Channel. Here’s some information about the airing schedule and tips for watching it if you’re located outside the United States.
