Wheel Of Time Game Is Once Again Happening, 20 Years After The Last Attempt

A role-playing game set in an open world, inspired by Robert Jordan’s 14-book fantasy series “The Wheel of Time,” is being developed. This is approximately two decades after Red Eagle Entertainment, now known as iwot Studios, gained the rights to produce games based on this beloved series.

According to Variety, the upcoming game being developed by iwot Studios is an expansive, high-quality open-world role-playing title, entirely produced in-house. This project is headed by Craig Alexander, a former Vice President of Product Development at Warner Bros. Games. The studio anticipates a three-year development period before the game launches on both consoles and PC platforms.

The studio intends to extend The Wheel of Time universe into films, television shows, and video games, as they hold the rights for all these mediums. In fact, Dev iwot Studios has already been a part of producing Amazon’s Wheel of Time TV series, an upcoming movie titled Age of Legends, and a 3D-animated Wheel of Time film in production. According to CEO Rick Selvage, there will be collaboration between the upcoming films and the game, but the game is set to encompass the entirety of Jordan’s world, as reported by Variety.

Selvage stated that the game is an open-world design, encompassing the entire scope of “The Wheel of Time”. This includes all the narrative elements and background details found in the books. As we develop the game world, it won’t be confined to specific regions or time periods. Instead, it will represent the expansive Wheel of Time universe as a whole.

In 2008, Red Eagle Entertainment (then known as iwot) announced a partnership with renowned RPG developers Obsidian Entertainment for creating a game based on “Wheel of Time.” Initially, this game was intended for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC platforms. Additionally, there were rumors about an MMORPG version of Wheel of Time in development, as well as a live-action film from Universal Studios.

It seems that previously proposed projects didn’t materialize, leaving uncertainty about the eventual success of the Wheel of Time open-world RPG. However, Variety reports that Alexander is now assembling the executive team for the studio, who will work from their base in Montreal.

Individuals eager to immerse themselves in Jordan’s extensive Wheel of Time series (with the final three volumes penned by Brandon Sanderson following Jordan’s passing in 2007) have an affordable opportunity at hand. At present, all Wheel of Time books, along with two companion guides, are available for just $18 through Humble Bundle.
