In a refreshing twist of words: Lindsay Lohan‘s portrayal of Anna Coleman in the 2003 movie “Freaky Friday” significantly impacted the mindset of teenage girls – at least, that was my experience, though I hope other young females were equally inspired. The scene where Anna (and Tess) rocked on stage with an electric guitar left me yearning for one too. In the upcoming sequel “Freakier Friday,” Lohan reprises her role as Anna, who this time will exchange bodies not just with her mother, but with her on-screen daughter Harper. Meanwhile, Jamie Lee Curtis switches places with Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter Lily, who seems to be having issues with Harper. The new movie is set to release on August 8, and here are the sneak peeks Lohan has given about the eagerly awaited sequel.
Pink Slip is reunited!
In the initial movie, Lindsay Lohan portrays her character Anna Coleman in the band Pink Slip, where she sings and plays guitar. Later, in an interview with Elle, she expresses her plans to perform again on stage, stating that it feels more like she’s expressing Anna’s character rather than her own. Lohan clarifies, “In this film, I was singing as [character] Anna, whereas before it felt more like me, Lindsay, singing.” Interestingly, Christina Vidal (who plays Maddie) had recently given birth, and both actresses joked about whether they were still considered cool.
Anna’s daughter is trying to set her up with her ex
In the unusual situation where Anna and her daughter Harper have switched bodies, Harper, now in Anna’s form, attempts to persuade Anna to flirt with Harper’s former boyfriend, portrayed by Chad Michael Murray, who runs a record store. Lohan spontaneously created several amusing characteristics on set, even though she only had basic directions written down. “None of that was scripted,” Lohan explained to Entertainment Weekly. “I almost tripped up a few times. I believe Chad’s reactions were genuine.
Freakier Friday is “easy going”
Lohan found herself perfectly comfortable during the production of the sequel. In an interview with Elle, she shared, “It’s relaxed. Everything just seemed effortless while we were filming it, and that’s the best way I can describe how I felt both when making it and watching it. It was lighthearted and enjoyable, yet still fresh. At present, not many movies entice me to go to the cinema. However, [Freakier Friday] is a heartwarming film, which I aim to share with others. Plus, it’s fun! Watching the second cut made me want to get up and dance at the end. I thought, ‘This is great. I like this tune. I hope people will feel the same way.’
The film is an “homage” to Los Angeles
On a different note, “Freakier Friday” was filmed in the Malibu and Pacific Palisades region of Los Angeles, an area that recently experienced wildfires this year. Lohan mentioned, “The movie is essentially a tribute to California post-the fires, as we filmed extensively in the Palisades and Malibu. Even the original “Freaky Friday” house, sadly, no longer exists. So I believe it will serve as a heartfelt ode.
