Regardless of the vampire comedy wrapping up prior to the 2025 TV lineup, revisiting six seasons of What We Do in the Shadows (with a Hulu subscription) remains one of the most hilarious television experiences one can encounter this or any year. It’s hard to deny that Matt Berry’s exceptional portrayal of Laszlo Cravensworth, embodiment of pomposity, is a significant factor in its charm. The actor appeared to relish the role, and it’s delightful that his favorite Laszlo aspect aligns perfectly with mine.

Matt Berry from “What We Do In The Shadows” shares the most frequent fan reaction he encounters, and it appears to be a mix of hilarity and disquiet.
Among all the amusing moments I’d choose as standout highlights from WWDITS, there are many contenders such as Guillermo’s romantic endeavors, Baby Colin Robinson, and the stunningly good series finale. However, it’s hard to imagine anything eclipsing Steve Carell’s hilarious transformation into real-life bartender Jackie Daytona in Season 2, when his character underwent a dramatic persona flip.
When inquired by AwardsRadar regarding his cherished scene from the series, the veteran actor of IT Crowd reminisced fondly about the impact of Jackie’s distinctive toothpick, stating:
It’s quite plausible that the item is a toothpick. This guess stems from the absurdity of the joke associated with it, as well as the overconfidence displayed in trying to peddle such an unlikely solution to anyone who would give ear – traits that seem characteristic of him.
Couldn’t agree more, Matt Berry. Couldn’t agree more.
Jackie Daytona made his debut in Season 2’s sixth episode titled “On the Run.” He came into being as a result of the vengeful and debt-ridden Jim the Vampire appearing on Staten Island, searching for Laszlo who had eluded the state, killed a bar owner, and assumed management of the establishment with great popularity among the crowd. There was much cause for joy whenever Jackie Daytona was present, particularly for the girls’ volleyball team.
Perhaps not Jim Vampire, played exceptionally well by the talented guest star, Mark Hamill. However, everyone seemed to adore him, and I doubt any court would admit that his charm was due to hypnotic influence. Most likely not.
Witness Jackie D. in full swing; his portrayal as Laszlo seems more fitting for him compared to many other instances. He manages to convince us convincingly, though.
As the final season of “What We Do in the Shadows” approached, Matt Berry commented that it seemed appropriate to conclude the show, while co-creator Taika Waititi concurred, stating that the comedy series had run its course for a project derived from the 2014 film with the same title.
As a passionate film enthusiast, I find myself utterly bewildered. It seems inconceivable to me that there are shows currently airing on television which I prefer less than the return of this captivating series. Could it be that I’m under Jackie Daytona’s spell, drawn in by his effortlessly cool, everyday-human bartender demeanor?
In the tail end of “A Minecraft Movie,” Berry left a mark with his powerful vocals, and he’s set to do the same in the upcoming sci-fi film “Rogue Trooper.” Moreover, you might recognize his soothing voice from CBS’ “Watson” where he played the late Sherlock Holmes. I’m hoping we’ll hear him again in the world of “Fallout” when Season 2 arrives.
