What Kristin Cavallari Watches (and Listens to) With Her Kids

Kristin Cavallari became well-known at a young age after appearing on MTV’s Laguna Beach as a high school student. She quickly gained popularity in the early 2000s, boosted by a dramatic love triangle that the show’s cast now admits was largely created for television. After Laguna Beach ended, she continued on MTV with The Hills, got married, had three children, and starred in her own E! show, Very Cavallari. She’s also launched a jewelry line, an activewear collection, and a podcast called Back To The Beach with her former boyfriend, Stephen Colletti, where they discuss their time on Laguna Beach.

Looking back, Kristin Cavallari still finds it strange that she became famous and acted so mature at an age not much older than her oldest child, Camden, is now. The recent Roku special, The Reunion: Laguna Beach, which reunited the show’s cast after more than 20 years, has given her a lot to think about regarding that time.

Kristin Cavallari and the rest of the cast always wonder how they ended up in Cabo San Lucas unsupervised during spring break. She specifically can’t believe her dad allowed her to go.

Drake and Lil Uzi Vert

My sons enjoy being in charge of the music, though it’s mostly just them picking a favorite playlist to play.

They’re big fans of rap, especially Drake. But honestly, when they play it, it reminds me of my mom – you know, that feeling when something makes you think of your parents? For me, it’s when I just want to say, ‘I can’t stand this music!’ I just prefer relaxing music, but they always want to listen to rappers with names I can barely keep track of, like Lil Uzi Vert or Lil Baby. I’m lost when it comes to these artists.

I’ve played some Beastie Boys and Salt-N-Pepa for them, but they weren’t interested in my taste in music at all.

Dirty Dancing, The Bodyguard, and The Devil Wears Prada

With my sons playing competitive basketball and my daughter playing volleyball, our family is always busy and rarely has downtime. When we do get a free moment, I’ve been making an effort to watch movies with my daughter.

My friend and I love watching classic movies. We’ve seen favorites like Dirty Dancing, The Bodyguard, and The Devil Wears Prada. We’ve also watched teen classics like Clueless and Mean Girls. I’m sharing these movies with Saylor, and she’s really enjoying them too, which is great! Maybe I’m showing her things a little too soon, but it’s been fun.

NFL Football

I love spending NFL season watching football with my sons. They’re huge basketball fans too, and always have a game on, but honestly, it’s never really clicked for me. Even though both of them play, I still find myself getting lost – they’ll point out a foul or something, and I’m always asking, “What did I miss?”

My oldest son is also a big Cubs fan. He often has the games on, and I’ll occasionally watch with him, but I don’t really follow baseball myself.

Go Dog Go

When our kids were younger, we used to read to them constantly. They especially loved books like Go Dog Go and Goodnight Moon, all the Dr. Seuss classics. As they grew older, their tastes changed. We were a big Paw Patrol family for a while, but then they got into Henry Danger. My daughter, Saylor, also went through a phase where she really enjoyed a horse show called Free Rein.

Honestly, we’re not huge TV watchers in my family. I never really caught the TV bug, so it’s pretty rare for us all to gather around to watch something together. Between the kids’ sports schedules and just how busy we all are, when they do have downtime, they usually just want to hang out with their friends, which is totally understandable!

I’ve tried showing my kids snippets of shows like Laguna Beach now and then, but honestly, they just aren’t into it at all. They find it totally boring, and there’s no getting them interested, it seems.

I believe they understand what I do, and I’ve noticed they seem proud of me when talking with their friends. However, they’re still young and don’t usually want to discuss my work in detail. My son, Jaxon, is particularly sweet and will occasionally ask about my day, but that’s usually as far as the conversation goes.
