What is Balkan rage? TikTokers mock popular search terms and trends

As a proud native of the Balkans, I’ve got to say that the Balkan Rage trend on TikTok has me rolling with laughter! Growing up, we didn’t have “still water” or mango in our breakfast, but a hearty plate of cured meats, cheeses, and fresh bread – the true Balkan Breakfast!

Users on TikTok, particularly those from the Balkans, are devising their unique strategies within the app by duplicating trending video keywords as captions in their content.

The “Balkan Rage” trend on TikTok can be traced back to a popular movement among women in Southeastern Europe, known as the “Balkan Female Rage Fad,” which served as an outlet for these women to openly discuss and express their frequent feelings of anger.

In my enthusiasm, let me share that I hail from or have ties with lands nestled within the Balkan Peninsula – Albania, Bosnia, Greece, Bulgaria, even parts of Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia! These are the countries that make up this fascinating region.

2022 saw women residing in specific regions turn to TikTok as a platform to vocalize their frustration or exasperation. It was TikToker Gabbie who initiated the “Balkan female fury” trend that year, by posting about standing up for herself against Balkan men.

Gradually, TikTok users initiated the Balkan rage movement, a pattern of expressing frustration towards prevalent trends and search phrases, essentially poking fun at their significance.

Since last September, I’ve noticed a growing buzz around Balkan rage that just won’t seem to fade. It’s been consistently trending on TikTok, with users adopting it as a viral meme. Essentially, they’re replicating the same phrase over and over again, not just for fun, but to make it more widespread and give their own content a boost in views.

Terms and trends that TikTokers mock during their Balkan rage videos include still water, adrenaline, those who know, and even one of this year’s biggest rising stars, Hawk Tuah.

The TikTok user named ‘cookieslayer_227’ gained popularity by portraying a Balkan-style rage, particularly when he depicted himself appearing carefree in a classroom setting. He then shared some thoughts or ideas that might cross his mind during this scenario.

He expressed his displeasure with KSI’s new song ‘Thick Of It’ by saying, “I’m really tired of it,” in a playful manner. In the video description, the TikToker used hashtags such as Hawk Tuah, still water, mango, and others.

As a gamer, I recently followed the trendy move of TikToker ‘natus.fcb’. In his heated Balkan video, instead of crafting my own words, I opted to mimic the popular phrases that are buzzing around.

As a passionate fan, I couldn’t help but share my excitement when I learned that the exceptional soccer talent, Luka Modrić, hails from Croatia. This makes him a formidable contender for the Balkan pride!

“Hold on a moment… since Luka Modric is from Croatia, which is part of the Balkans, it could be said that he has a ‘BALKAN SPIRIT’.

On TikTok, the Balkan dance craze keeps gaining popularity, and so does another delight from the Balkans – a hearty meal resembling a charcuterie platter, known as the traditional Balkan breakfast.
