By November 2024, it was officially announced that Anne Hathaway had become part of the project’s cast, taking on the role of Verity. This reunion marks a return to working with director Paul Feig for both parties, following their previous collaboration on The Idea of You.
Currently, Antosca has been assigned to write the script for Colleen Hoover’s 2018 best-selling novel with the same title. This publication described it as a gothic, psychosexual thriller, similar in style to Rebecca and Gone Girl.
Verity controversy explained
People’s reactions to Hathaway joining the cast have varied after the uproar over The It Ends With Us controversy, which gained significant attention during the film’s release in August.
To put it simply, for those not already in the know, it all began with whispers about conflicts between Baldoni and the cast, stemming from allegations that key actors like Lively didn’t follow him on Instagram. The most infamous line came from a promotional video in which Lively told viewers to, “Grab your friends, wear your florals, and head out to see it,” with spectators accusing her of making It Ends With Us sound more like a rom-com than a drama about domestic violence.
Previously raised concerns about Hoover’s work reemerged due to allegations that she oversimplified or even glamorized abusive scenarios in her writing. Several critics highlighted her proposal for an It Ends With Us coloring book, which she later withdrew and expressed regret over the insensitive nature of the concept.
One major point of discussion during the summer’s box office hits has been Verity, causing some viewers to feel uneasy about it.
