What If Luffy Got Everyone He Asked to Join His Crew? The Shocking New Straw Hats

If every person Luffy has ever asked to join his Straw Hat Pirates actually agreed, it could transform the entire narrative. Impulsive as he is, Luffy often invites anyone who seems even slightly cool or peculiar to join his crew, just like how Brook initially became part of it. From a living skeleton to someone with a lower half that communicates through flatulence, from a talking tree to a head emerging from a treasure chest, there are many strange characters who have caught Luffy’s attention. What if these weren’t just quirky additions, but crewmates setting sail alongside him and numerous others like them?

If Luffy had his desired changes in the world of One Piece, both the Straw Hat Pirates and the entire storyline would undergo significant transformations. Given the vastness of the narrative and the impact each decision makes, the course of One Piece could veer dramatically, particularly if those initially approached by Luffy to join his crew agreed. The Straw Hat Pirates might then be perceived either as a circus-like group or as an intimidating powerhouse that strikes fear in the hearts of others.

The Legend of this Dynamic Trio Would Be Something to Fear

Back in our childhood days, Ace and Sabo were the first to receive my crew invitation. Despite treading separate paths that only amplify their intrigue, if somehow they’d decide to join forces with me, the world we live in would be turned upside down as soon as we set sail. Their relationship would bring a whirlwind of chaos that would have everyone laughing, but rest assured, the World Government would quiver in fear 24/7 knowing they’re together.

The thought of Ace and Gol D. Roger’s son teaming up seems intimidating enough, but this duo could potentially be even more menacing than their parents. However, there are some points to consider. If Ace were to team up with Luffy, he wouldn’t have encountered the and learned under Whitebeard. If Sabo were to join Luffy, his revolutionary path might not have unfolded. This hypothetical situation is intriguing because it alters the way each character becomes a legend, and it opens up numerous possibilities for future storylines.

Will Gaimon’s Lack of Mobility Get in the Way of the Straw Hats?

Characters who pique Luffy’s curiosity are extended an invitation to join the Straw Hat Pirates, and Gaimon is one of the unusual characters early in the story that catches Luffy’s attention. The fact that you have a walking, talking treasure chest on your crew certainly makes you noticeable, given the strange nature of the world in One Piece. However, it’s intriguing to consider how Gaimon would fit within the Straw Hat Pirates’ ranks.

In an engaging scenario for our storyline, Gaimon, though appearing mild-mannered, possesses a knack for handling pistols skillfully. Pairing him with Usopp, our crew’s expert marksman, would certainly add excitement to the mix, as Usopp guides Gaimon along. Nevertheless, this partnership may limit Gaimon’s actions and cause occasional inconvenience.

Crocus’ Knowledge of the One Piece Complicates Things

Upon reaching the Grand Line, Luffy and his companions would encounter a renowned figure in the One Piece universe without initially recognizing it. The first individual they’d meet in Paradise would be Crocus, a former physician with deep connections. It would be this character who Luffy would pose the timeless question, “Would you join my crew?” Just when the Straw Hats needed him most, Crocus presented himself as a skilled doctor that would prove beneficial to their journey ahead.

Should Crocus decide to join the team, the humor among them from their initial encounter alone promises to be entertaining. However, his familiarity with One Piece might diminish the sense of mystery, something Luffy strives to maintain. In a twist, if the crew were to visit Drum Island in search of a doctor, Crocus being present would have made that unnecessary. Interestingly, if they had gone, Luffy likely would have invited Dr. Kureha along instead. The team is already unpredictable; adding Dr. Kureha could potentially escalate the chaos further.

The Dugongs Could Have Recon Missions & Learn Under Jinbe

At Alabasta, Luffy developed a strong bond with the Kung Fu Dugongs. They learned from him and he in turn taught them some moves. Luffy invited the Dugongs to join his crew, but they couldn’t due to not being able to cross the desert, as Vivi explained. In a world where this wasn’t an issue, or if the gang were ever to return for these adorable creatures, they would make excellent additions as part of the Straw Hat pirate crew.

With Straw Hat Pirates, the Kung Fu Dugongs could serve as our initial barrier, executing secretive underwater investigations or rescuing comrades who are part of the crew and find themselves in peril underwater due to their Devil Fruit abilities. The interplay between these adorable creatures and the rest of the crew would be a delight to watch, especially in interactions with Chopper or learning a trick or two from Jinbe. Luffy’s funny encounter with the Kung Fu Dugongs sets the stage for numerous endearing moments that might unfold as they join our pirate crew.

The Straw Hats Missing Out on Franky Would Be a Major Blow

The Straw Hat Pirates found themselves constantly seeking a shipwright due to their initial encounter on the Grand Line, as their vessel, the Going Merry, sustained considerable battle damage throughout various arcs. Realizing this need, they decided to recruit a shipwright from Water 7. Iceburg, the mayor of Water 7 and skilled shipwright at Galley-La Company, was approached to join their crew. If Iceburg were to accept, it would probably eliminate the mischief involving Franky’s cola-powered antics.

If Iceburg were to abandon his role as mayor to join piracy, fans might ponder about the tactical moves he could employ. While he’s tough enough to withstand Franky’s weaponry and skilled in gun use, would those abilities suffice for survival in Thriller Bark or Sabaody? Choosing Franky over Iceburg seems clearly the better option.

Saving the Shadow Victims Would Revert This Zombie Duo to Corpses

The duo of zombie oddballs, McDonald (a zombie tree) and Unigaro (a zombie unicorn), whom Luffy invited to join his crew during Thriller Bark, remain a question mark in the fighting department. These two characters, with limited information available about them, would likely have a short stay onboard the Straw Hat Pirates due to their unique nature and potential lifespan as zombies.

If Luffy were to liberate the shadows and save Thriller Bark’s captives, McDonald and Unigaro would once again become deceased bodies. In their short time as part of the Straw Hat Pirates, viewers might recall them sharing drinks with Zoro before meeting their end. Otherwise, these two characters wouldn’t have had many opportunities to interact significantly with other members of the Straw Hat crew.

This Addition Won’t Change Much Until After Wano

During Punk Hazard, Kin’emon made an unusual entrance. What viewers didn’t witness was the tactical samurai side of him; instead, they only caught glimpses of his lower half, which communicated through flatulence. Naturally, Luffy found this peculiar sight intriguing enough to ask such a unique part of his body to join his crew.

If Kin’emo agrees to join with his lower half, then his upper half will also have to become a part of the crew. For the upcoming story arcs, Kin’emo would be along with the crew, and things would generally follow a similar course. Kin’emon may not be the most formidable swordsman among the crew or even the second best, but he would certainly hold his ground in combat.

Could Hyoutauros Be of Use on the Crew?

In One Piece, there are numerous eccentric characters, including unique combinations like Hyoutauros, who is part jaguar and part centaur. Luffy comes across Hyoutauros while disguised as a centaur himself, using Kin’emon’s lower body as his tail. They quickly develop a rapport, but when Luffy’s true identity is revealed, Hyoutauros, assuming he was an enemy, attempts to fight him.

After easily outpacing Luffy during their race, Hyoutauros displayed his strength as well. But despite the challenge he posed, the upcoming battles would reveal him to be no match for Luffy’s crew. Still, upon encountering each other again, Luffy would extend an invitation to join his team.

Ucy Could Be the Crew’s Transportation Tank

In the grand tournament, Ucy, the towering bull from an unspecified location, presented an engaging interaction with Luffy. Luffy managed to subdue the beast using his Haki of Conqueror, and the two formed a strong bond. Later on, Luffy extended an invitation for Ucy to join his crew. If he accepted, Ucy would prove to be advantageous to the team in various ways.

Ucy, robustly constructed and swift, had the capacity to transport both passengers and supplies when needed. He even managed to give a good fight against some weaker adversaries occasionally. It might be beneficial to introduce another animal companion for Chopper to develop a friendship with as well.

Tama & Momo Could Grow Into Their Roles

It was almost inevitable that Yamato would become part of the Straw Hat crew since their introduction during Wano. Yamato’s character traits align perfectly; their aspiration to resemble Oden, who sailed with the former Pirate King, and having the opportunity to sail with Luffy, who is destined to be the next Pirate King. Similar to Oden, Yamato chose to explore Wano first. However, in a scenario where Yamato agrees to join Luffy’s crew, they would undoubtedly make an exceptional addition.

Yamato can fight alongside the Monster Trio, boosting the Straw Hats’ collective strength. Additionally, Yamato brings humor that enriches the team’s dynamics. However, it’s not just Yamato who might join the crew from Wano; Luffy has also invited Tama, Momo, and Kin’emon to become part of the team if they cross paths again in the future. So while they won’t be joining right away, as they grow stronger, they could prove valuable additions to the crew. Figuring out their roles in the ongoing climax of the story is something we’ll have to wait and see.
