As a seasoned explorer and avid gamer with countless hours spent in MMORPGs like Runescape, I find myself intrigued by the new kid on the block – Brighter Shores. While it’s not quite the familiar realm of Gielinor, there’s a certain charm to this point-and-click explorer that draws me in.

In simpler terms, “Brighter Shores” is a fresh, interactive exploration game modeled after the widely-loved massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) Runescape. As you venture through various locations, master professions, collect weapons, engage in activities, and even interact with other players in an open environment, you might find yourself puzzling over what the red and green arrows represent.

What are the red and green arrows next to someone’s name in Brighter Shores?

Once you finish the initial tutorial phase, you’ll encounter actual players in Hopeport. These could be nearby online strangers or your friends. Over the heads of these players, you might frequently spot red or green arrows and various symbols. These symbols signify the player’s equipment level, and whether they are typical, above par, or below average relative to their character level. Symbols next to a player’s name represent their faction. You can delve deeper into this information using the Community menu; here’s how:

  • Click on the Community tab on the bottom right or simply press C on your keyboard.
  • Open the Nearby Players section. From the list, select the player you want to inspect and click on Info. This will reveal the player’s stats including faction, guard level, equipment, and vulnerability.
  • You can see the player has a red arrow pointing downward in the second image above. This most likely means their equipment is poor for their level.
  • Equipment may also have a green arrow which means the player has better equipment.
  • If you see the fourth image, you’ll notice the equipment says average. This indicates the equipment is on par with the player’s guard level.

In Brighter Stones, it seems unclear why we should consider this stat or indicator, given that Player versus Player (PvP) isn’t available yet. This means it’s not beneficial to compare your equipment stats with other players, since there’s currently no way to engage in competition. Many players hold a similar viewpoint due to the lack of armor or weapons for sale at present.

In another situation where I’ve encountered the red and green arrows is when swapping armor pieces, as demonstrated in the provided image. Here, these arrows essentially function as a comparison tool, showing which item has a superior stat compared to the other. Therefore, if you’ve discovered new armor or weapons, it would be beneficial to examine whether they surpass your current equipment using the stat comparison screen.
