Having played countless games on various platforms, I can appreciate the dilemma many face when deciding where to play their next big adventure. The announcement of PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5 versions has left some wondering about Valve’s handheld powerhouse – the Steam Deck.


Currently, numerous individuals are eagerly anticipating the upcoming launch of Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2, scheduled for next week. Yet, certain enthusiasts will get an early play due to the Gold and Ultra Editions. Consequently, many gamers ponder over which platform is best. The game is set to drop on PC, Xbox Series S/X, and PS5. However, we’ve omitted any mention of Steam Deck… what about Valve’s handheld device? Let’s explore the possibility.

Saber Interactive developers aren’t aloof towards fans; instead, they are quite communicative and transparent with game-related information. In fact, they have recently shared a Community Update loaded with crucial details. This update clarified that Ray Tracing and HDR compatibility might not be prioritized, but ultrawide support is imminent. Furthermore, there’s some insight regarding the future of Space Marine 2 on Steam Deck.

Will the game be playable on Steam Deck?

At the moment, we’re diligently developing the Steam Deck compatibility, but it’s not quite ready for use just yet. Our aim is to fully integrate Steam Deck by the end of this year.

As you can see, Steam Deck version is planned. However, keep in mind that “target” and “will be released” are two different things. It means that we can expect the official support by the end of the year, but we should not be surprised if it will appear in 2025. Of course, it does not mean that the game will be completely unplayable on Steam Deck at launch. As the history shows, often games which are officially not supported work well on Valve’s device. We will have to wait for the premiere and check out the first impressions.
