WH40K Space Marine 2 - HDR and Ray Tracing (RT) Explained

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of gaming technology from the days of 8-bit graphics to the stunning visuals we enjoy today. The prospect of playing a new Space Marine game set in the Warhammer 40k universe has me more than excited! However, upon learning that it won’t support Ray Tracing or HDR, I must admit, my heart skipped a beat.

Technology advances at an accelerated pace, and what was once cutting-edge is increasingly becoming standard and widespread. Powerful GPUs with raytracing capabilities, 4K displays boasting refresh rates above 60Hz and HDR are no longer exclusive to the enthusiast community. Developers now have the freedom to incorporate such advanced features in their games if they so choose.

Will WH40k Space Marine 2 support Ray Tracing and HDR?

In the gritty Warhammer 40,000 universe, where death is everywhere, isn’t it tempting to add a touch of elegance with enhanced visual effects like High Dynamic Range (HDR) or Ray Tracing? The gleam of spilled Tyranid blood in Space Marine 2 would surely pop against the dark backdrop, right? However, it appears that this is not the case – WH40k Space Marine 2 will not include Ray Tracing or HDR support. This has been made clear through an official post on Steam.

Although the game’s system requirements aren’t particularly demanding, it seems a significant amount of processing power is allocated for creating numerous enemies. To put it simply, this type of game prioritizes gameplay and storyline over visual effects like HDR or ray tracing. However, despite lacking these features, the game doesn’t appear unattractive based on the creators’ shared screenshots and videos. Furthermore, the developers provide options for console players, allowing them to select between quality and performance modes.

As a reminder, Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine 2 will become available on 9/10-Sep-2024, offering 4 days earlier access to players who preordered the game in gold or ultra edition. The release is overnight, so make sure to check the exact dates. The production will offer at least 4 seasons, adding more features with free updates, like ultrawide support, new missions, enemies, weapons, game modes and more. Season Pass offering cosmetics is also planned. Good luck!
