I’m eagerly awaiting the opportunity if Marvel Studios, under Kevin Feige, should need me for the long-awaited “Blade” film starring Mahershala Ali. As someone who has worked extensively with the comic book vampire hunter in the past, having written all three movies in the original “Blade” trilogy featuring Wesley Snipes and even taking on directing duties for “Blade: Trinity” in 2004, I’m well-prepared to contribute my skills once again.
When asked if he would pen a reboot for Marvel’s ‘Blade’, Goyer enthusiastically replied, ‘I definitely would! I’ve always had a soft spot for the character and I adore him.’ He further expressed his excitement and confusion about the delay, stating, ‘As a huge fan of Marvel myself, I’ve been on the edge of my seat, wondering what’s going on and why it’s taking so long. It’s all been quite puzzling.’
Marvel initially revealed plans for a “Blade” film featuring Ali back in July 2019. However, the project has faced numerous setbacks since then, with various screenwriters and directors departing over time. Bassam Tariq was the initial director attached to the movie, but he left in September 2022, just a couple of months before filming was due to commence. A number of screenwriters have been connected to the project throughout the years, including Stacy Osei-Kuffour from “Watchmen” and Michael Starrbury. The latest departure was director Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) in June 2021.
Last summer during his “Deadpool & Wolverine” press tour, Feige told BlackTree TV that the studio has prioritized taking their time with the “Blade” movie, stating: “In essence, we’ve been working diligently for the past two years to get it right, and our main focus is not to rush it.
In November 2023, it was disclosed by EbMaster that “Blade” had been handled by at least five screenwriters up until then. A source with knowledge of the script modifications revealed that the tale underwent a transformation into a female-centric narrative, rich in life lessons. At that time, there were rumors suggesting that Marvel was still considering producing the film, albeit within a budget under $100 million. However, Marvel Studios removed “Blade” from its release schedule last autumn.
Kevin Feige confirmed to Omelete (through IGN) soon after the movie was postponed that we are dedicated to Blade. We adore the character and Mahershala’s portrayal of him. Also, when we adjust the course for a project or are yet to decide on its schedule, we always inform the audience. Rest assured, you’re all in the loop about the latest developments. However, I can assure you that the character will eventually appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
In “Deadpool & Wolverine,” Blade, portrayed once more by Snipes, received a grand welcome back with fanfare, ultimately earning a staggering $1.3 billion worldwide. Within the movie, Blade humorously asserted to Deadpool, “There’s been just one Blade. There will always be only one Blade.
