Wes Anderson Says ‘I Tried to Get Jodie Foster’ in My Movies, but She Won’t Do It: I Asked Her to Star in ‘Three Movies in a Row, Maybe Four’

In Wes Anderson‘s films, renowned actors such as Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Owen Wilson, Ben Stiller, Benedict Cumberbatch, Margot Robbie, Bill Murray, Bruce Willis, Bryan Cranston, among others, have been drawn. However, it appears that two-time Oscar winner Jodie Foster has eluded Anderson’s casting choices thus far. During a Collider interview while promoting “The Phoenician Scheme,” Anderson disclosed that he has attempted to cast Foster in almost every one of his films without success.

For quite some time, numerous films I directed aimed to feature Jodie Foster. It seemed we approached her for roles in almost every production. I believe I offered her parts in as many as four consecutive movies. Upon meeting her, I found myself drawn to her talent and charm. I admired her greatly, Jodie Foster, and cherished our collaboration.

Anderson mentioned a movie titled ‘Little Man Tate’, where she directed Jodie Foster playing the mother character. He wondered if you remembered this film, as he found Foster particularly captivating in it due to her radiant charm and unique portrayal of a different type of character. However, despite repeated attempts, Anderson felt that perhaps the timing wasn’t right for Foster and their project, as she might have been focused on other work at that time.

When queried about the specific films where he considered casting Jodie Foster, Anderson diplomatically refused and clarified: ” Frankly, I prefer not to mention them as it may lead to questions like ‘Wasn’t your initial choice someone else who’s in the movie?’. I’d rather avoid that. But let me tell you, Jodie Foster is truly remarkable.

EbMaster has reached out to Foster’s representative for comment.

It’s yet unclear if Anderson will ever collaborate with Foster; the esteemed actress is quite choosy about acting opportunities these days, taking on just a few roles in the 2020s. Among them was “Nyad,” for which she received an Oscar nomination, and more recently, she premiered her French-language drama “A Private Life” at Cannes. Coincidentally, Anderson also premiered his film “The Phoenician Scheme” at the same festival, with both movies debuting in competition.

“The Phoenician Scheme” is now playing in limited release and expands nationwide June 6.
