Wendy Williams Calls Into ‘The View’ and Tells Her Guardian to ‘Get Off My Neck’: ‘How Dare They Say I Have Incapacitation? I Do Not’

On the episode of “The View” that aired on March 14, Wendy Williams expressed her frustration towards Sabrina Morrissey (her current guardian) and the judge who declared her legally incapacitated, stating emphatically, “It’s time for you all to stop riding my back.” She further emphasized her desire for change by saying, “I require a new guardian.” Wendy Williams was placed under a court-appointed guardianship in 2022. Recently, she made headlines on March 10 after being transferred from an assisted living facility to a hospital.

Williams explained to the hosts of “The View” about her recent visit to the hospital: “I was feeling a bit anxious,” she said, “and since I live near the memory unit on this floor, I just needed some change of scenery. I wanted to see the doctors, so that’s why I decided to go to the hospital.

Williams stated that a sample of her blood was taken from her thyroid, and she further mentioned, “I opted for an independent assessment regarding my condition, which I haven’t received yet. It’s outrageous for them to suggest I’m incapacitated! I am not.

In my own words, I’ve been residing on a floor specifically designed for memory care, where I’m restricted to staying within these confines. It’s a place filled with individuals who are in their 90s, 80s, and 70s… but the question remains, why am I here? You can understand my bewilderment, right? It’s a world where memories seem to fade away. As a result, I spend most of my time in my room. I rarely venture out for meals. I’m mostly confined to my room.

Sunny Hostin relayed comments from the attorney representing Williams’ legal guardian, stating that the court-ordered guardianship was established following a judge’s determination of Williams’ legal incapacity due to frontal temporal dementia. The attorney also emphasized that Williams has not been deprived of family contact and is receiving top-notch medical attention.

“I need them to get off my neck,” Williams fired back.

On “The View,” Williams made her most prominent television comeback since wrapping up “The Wendy Williams Show” in June 2022. Originating in 2008, the talk show aired its final episodes without Williams as host, following her absence due to health concerns linked to lymphedema and Graves’ disease, which began in 2021.

In the year 2024, it was revealed that Williams was diagnosed with both aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Aphasia impairs an individual’s language skills and ability to communicate, whereas FTD alters behavior patterns and cognitive capabilities.

Before receiving the diagnosis, Williams was placed under a court-ordered guardianship in 2022, an arrangement she has spoken out against in recent times. In January, she expressed on “The Breakfast Club” radio show that she feels like she’s in a prison and declared herself as not cognitively impaired. She also referred to her guardian, Sabrina E. Morrissey, as the person holding her captive metaphorically speaking.

This past week, it became known that Williams was transferred from her assisted living home to a hospital on March 10. During a call to “Good Day New York,” the 60-year-old Williams stated that she is not cognitively impaired and has been working towards ending her conservatorship. She also claimed to have undergone mental competency tests, passing them with high marks. Her caretaker, Gina Monterrosa, reinforced this by saying that she has been declared as not being incapacitated.
