The 50th season of Survivor had a disappointing start when Kyle Fraser was forced to leave the game due to a leg injury. He hurt himself during the first immunity challenge while attempting to climb a wall and didn’t improve after a few days of rest. The show’s doctor suspected a torn ACL, and for safety reasons, Kyle was medically evacuated. Before leaving, he encouraged his tribemates to take advantage of his torch, telling them, “I love you guys.”
Kyle’s elimination was a shock to both those playing the game with him and viewers at home. As a previous winner returning for Survivor 50, he seemed to be in a very strong position, with solid alliances formed with Genevieve, Colby, and Stephenie – all of whom are now vulnerable without his support. It’s disappointing to see a promising player, who was clearly a threat, voted out so early, and it’s likely his departure will cast a shadow over the rest of the season.
The situation is even worse than it appeared on the show. A video from Survivor reporter Dalton Ross shows exactly how Kyle got injured. Surprisingly, the footage the show used wasn’t of the actual jump where he was hurt. Ross explained that Kyle successfully climbed to the top of the ramp without injury. However, when Colby couldn’t get up after his turn, Kyle went back down to help him, and then attempted the jump himself, resulting in the injury. This highlights how easily the accident could have been prevented, making it a particularly upsetting start to what was meant to be a fun and exciting season.
