The much-anticipated return of vehicular combat is nearly here! The indie game titled “Fumes,” which involves constructing vehicles, navigating a post-apocalyptic landscape, and annihilating other cars, has set a release date for its early access debut next month. The demo of this game has been accessible for over a year and has garnered an astonishing 98% positive feedback from approximately 200 players. If you’ve been yearning for the thrill that games like Twisted Metal offered, don’t forget to add “Fumes” to your Steam wishlist. Fumes will be launched in early access on July 28th.
Twisted Metal is back in Fumes, a new indie addition to the vehicular combat genre
The game exudes an old-school charm, with its pixelated automobiles and traditional touches like 2D fire sprites for the flamethrower. However, at present, there’s no multiplayer mode available. But fear not! The developers have shared a plan on their Steam page, so players can keep track of upcoming features. Expect to engage in competitive races, transport enigmatic packages, and battle colossal bosses as you blast away at enemy cars.
This game’s vehicle can be extensively personalized, as demonstrated by multiple car models, each with unique specifications and advantages. You can customize it with colors, stickers, and yes, even weaponry. Although the gameplay shown doesn’t heavily focus on this aspect yet, there seems to be some form of close combat options. Some cars even sport front-mounted buzzsaws, while future updates plan for a significant enhancement in melee combat.
Participating in early access isn’t always a choice everyone is comfortable with, given that the game is still under development. However, unlike big studios exploiting an unfinished product for profit, the team behind Fumes consists of only four dedicated individuals working on it in their spare time. Supporting them by wishlisting the game or contributing financially through early access will directly contribute to its development process.
The leading comment on the YouTube trailer video encapsulates the overall feeling: “It’s satisfactory, great to have you back, Twisted Metal“. A multitude of comments reflect a sense of nostalgia and anticipation for more content. If you’re into old-school vehicle combat, consider adding “Fumes” to your Steam wishlist, as it is set to debut on early access on Steam on July 28th.
