The company recently announced its new platform, designed to give its webtoon creators better support and tools.
WEBTOON announced several upcoming changes designed to better support its creators and improve its services. This spring, they will launch a new, combined platform called CANVAS, merging seven of their existing user-generated content services into one central hub for creators.
WEBTOON Announces Major CANVAS Platform Updates for Spring 2026
The most significant – and potentially debated – part of the new CANVAS platform is its automatic translation feature. This tool, built with both our own technology and large language models, will initially be available this week to a limited number of English-speaking creators by invitation only. It will allow them to automatically translate the text in their comics into six languages: Spanish, French, Thai, Indonesian, German, and Traditional Chinese.
WEBTOON’s new AI translation tool will be optional, but it’s designed to quickly help creators reach readers in other countries. It’s a practical solution to the challenge of providing enough human translators for all the creators who want to share their work with a global audience.
The company has already introduced AI tools like Toon Radar to combat piracy and safeguard the work and income of its creators. In 2023, they also launched Toon Filter, a photo filter that lets fans interact with characters they love.
Throughout the year, WEBTOON will be inviting more creators to use the new translation feature as we continue to improve it. However, creators from Korea and Japan won’t be included at this time, as those regions already have their own separate user-generated content platforms that won’t be combined with this new feature.
I’ve noticed the platform is really focusing on helping creators succeed. They’re not just adding AI tools, but also giving creators much better data about who’s reading their work and how to improve. Plus, the homepage, called CANVAS, has been redesigned to make it easier for readers to find interesting stories from creators around the world, with recommendations tailored just for them.
WEBTOON is making it easier for more creators to earn money through its Ad Revenue Share program. Along with new translation tools, creators now have the potential to increase their earnings and find the system for sharing ad revenue more user-friendly.
