„We Want to Deliver to You The Best Version of Farthest Frontier We Can.” Great Medieval City Builder Faces Delay in Official Release

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that I’ve seen delays before, but spring 2025 for Farthest Frontier feels like an eternity. I remember when I used to wait for hours on end in the Gothic’s Valley of Mines for that precious gold, and now I’m waiting for a game that seems as elusive as that treasure.

Crate Interactive’s game Farthest Frontier has been in Early Access for more than two years now. Originally planned to launch version 1.0 this year, it has been postponed until spring 2025 instead. Simultaneously, a new trailer was unveiled, which you can view below.

Reasons for delay

On the studio’s site, you’ll find a specific update post where the developers have shared the reasons for the delay. In order to ensure we receive the optimal version of “Farthest Frontier“, the creators are focusing on enhancing the game’s performance initially, as it currently doesn’t meet their standards.

In simpler terms, our game is currently running smoothly in larger cities with over 3000 inhabitants. However, there’s potential for even smoother gameplay, especially when it comes to increasing frame rates. We want to invest time to ensure that these improvements are implemented effectively and accurately.

Reason two involves a wish to incorporate some fresh features into the game, but doing so would conflict with the current timetable.

As the holidays draw near, you’ll notice a flood of marketing efforts by major publishers, hoping to capture your holiday spending. On the other hand, February often marks a time when people’s wallets are recuperating post-holidays, and that’s when we usually see the release of big-budget AAA games.

By the way, it’s been announced that the upcoming update, numbered 0.9.6, is set to start public testing within the following two weeks. This update will give us greater control over the game, especially through the “custom” gameplay option. Previously, this was expected to be the last patch before version 1.0, but the developers have decided to include version 0.9.7 as well. This additional update is scheduled for early next year and will introduce achievements, with further details available in the announcement.
