CD Projekt RED is well-known for creating role-playing games with captivating plots. Titles like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, famous for their immersive storylines, are testament to this. Now, due to the expertise they’ve built up over time in this area, it seems challenging for them to venture into a different genre of game development at the moment (as suggested by 3DJugeos).
CDPR is doomed to narrative RPGs
In the most recent episode of the AnsweRED podcast, the esteemed guests were Marcin Iwinski, one of the co-founders of CD Projekt RED, and Adam Badowski, who holds the dual role as co-CEO at the studio. The discussion encompassed various topics, including the guiding principles that the company plans to adopt in the coming days.
It’s hardly unexpected that CD Projekt Red intends to excel in their forte, crafting exceptional open-world RPG games. Despite the allure of venturing into different game genres, it’s the only approach they believe will result in premium products, as Badowski made clear.
In every endeavor we undertake, we have discovered that staying precise and dedicated is crucial. There are numerous things we wish to pursue, yet we must resist the temptation. Unfortunately, some attempts didn’t succeed as planned. Instead, we concentrate on our strengths and commit fully to them. All our efforts revolve around this. Our strategic direction involves creating AAA RPGs with open-world narratives, which can be considered our specialty. Thus, our focus lies here.
The Polish developers dabbled in various game genres as well. For instance, they developed Gwent, a card game that initially spun off from The Witcher 3, but eventually transformed into an entirely distinct title. You might recall another game, The Witcher Battle Arena, which falls under the MOBA category. This was a joint project with Fuero Games studio, however, it was removed from stores quite promptly.
It appears quite straightforward, but as you develop, it becomes challenging due to numerous distractions. The concepts are intriguing. Games continue to improve significantly, particularly in terms of gameplay. However, they need to align with our understanding for optimal use. This process requires time. At first, excitement is high, but in the long run, it may not prove effective.
By employing this method, we can anticipate that the upcoming games from studio CD Projekt RED, namely The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2, are likely to surpass their previous versions in quality. Additionally, CD Projekt RED is developing a project known as Project Hadar, details about which remain unknown regarding its genre. However, based on statements from studio head Adam Badowski, it’s reasonable to presume that it will most likely be another narrative-focused role-playing game (RPG).
